Guys please help!
I'm kind of puzzled about which card is better suited for gaming at 1920x1200 (24" or 25.5" LCD monitor). I'm not in the US, so I would have to pay anywhere from 400 to 500 USD for ATI 5850/GTX 285/Crossfire 4890.
I mostly play games like WoW, Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl/Clear Sky/Call of Prypyat, Age of Conan, Diablo 3 (when it comes out) and games like that. Nothing heavy ala Crysis and such.
system will be i7 920/860 with 4 Gigs of mem.

Thank you in advance.

P.S. Can't find tests that were done on Anandtech before, so if you have links, please post them.

Stalker and Conan can be just as power hungry as Crysis with all their eye candy enabled but I use a GTX260 vanilla @ 1920x1200 w/4xAA with a stock Q6600, so any card in that class will do you fine, just as long as there's more than 512MB of video ram.

I run at that res, and if I were buying a new video card right now I'd get a 5850... if I could find one (especially at MSRP). However, my overclocked GTX260 is just fine and plays everything very well, so I'm just going to wait and see how things shake out.

Hello Kuyaglen,
do you get a somewhat choppy gameplay sometimes with your set up in those games ?
And do you have everything maxed ?

Thank you for your reply, friend :)

MagickMan, thank you for help :)

I'll second it that the 5850 is a good choice if you are buying right now....if you can find one of course. :D

5850 if you can find one, or a 4890 will be adequate.

+1 for this. Try your hardest to find a 5850 for a decent price, but if you can't, then a 4890 will be more than enough. It can OC really decently too.

I went from an 8800GT to a 4890 on a 1920x1200 monitor and every game I play has been butter smooth with everything maxed out. (except for Crysis of course) Borderlands looks amazing maxed out, and is liquid smooth on the 4890. Good luck!

Oh, one more thing, you don't need crossfire 4890's at your resolution, at least not with the games out now. You just need 1 5850 or 1 4890. Don't bother with Sli or Xfire at this point (maybe next year when games are more demanding).

Is it not possible to order computer parts from the states to your country? That's a crazy amount of money.

5850. it might take a few weeks to find one around msrp but you'll be glad you got that instead of settling for a gtx 260 or 4890.

Can you specifically list the prices for the following:

5850
GTX 275
GTX 260 216 core
4870 1GB / 4890 1GB.

If all of these cards are between $400-$500, then 5850 is the way to go. If say any of these cards are $200-$250, then it's not worth it to pay double for 5850 or GTX 285 or 4890.

However if 4890 CF is around $500, then it seems you can get a single card for $250?
