Which Video Card for ~$150

I can't afford any of the great cards, but could spare up to about $150. Some of the contestants are the Radeon 64mb Vivo, Radeon le (with ddr flash), GeForce 2 GTS, possibly a Geforce 2 pro, and the Kyro II.

Which of these (or another) would you recomend. I don't do any important clarity work on my monitor, so basically I just want the best gaming performance.

The card will go into a 1.4ghz Tbird system with 256megs ram.

Forgot to mention. I run a dual boot system of Windows 98/2000. 99% of the time it runs 2000 though, so that is the OS the card should perform well in.

All of the cards you mention are great cards, which one is best is speculation, each have strong points, all work great with the current games properly installed, you wont be lacking the power to push polys with that T-bird. I like the Radeon, but I have an AIW and and a V3 2000 before that, so I can't compare to the nVidia or Kyroll cards.

I am also inquiring about video-cards in windows 2000..
i play counter-strike alot and i was wondeirng which video card would be more promising

thanks

<< the ati cards have kinda crappy win2k drivers. >>

Are you speaking from experience, or just what you've heard? The Windows 2000 drivers from ATI don't perform as well as Windows 98, ME, etc. when it comes to games. However, the overall performance and stability under Windows 2000 of my Radeon VE card is quite good.

If you are a gamer, you'll probably still need to keep a dual boot system going. For me, Superbike 2001, Need for Speed and others don't run under Windows 2000, so Windows ME is my only option for playing those games.

If you can find a GTS Pro for close to $150 go for it. Win 2K drivers are great (12.90) and the card should be able to overclock to Ultra specs (230/450)

The problem with that link is that the MSI Pro uses 5.5 ns RAM. Look for another brand (VisionTek, E-VGA) that uses 5.0 ns RAM)
