[deleted]thank you sooo soo much!! i wish most people's posts were that informative!! what a stupid post, and no im not "stealing" them, im just using them because i don't have my own one smart one. if i had it i would photograph it and use it, but i just used theres as an example. now are you gonna give me advice or what?

Heh. It's hard to convey sarcasm with text 🙂. I know you're not stealing images 😛.

In all seriousness though. I did hear something about NV5 requiring lots of airflow for it to work - and I also heard something else about if you had a PCI card right under the graphics card, you should be fine.

Judging from the large copper heatsink on the NV5, I think you'll be good with that. The zalman, however, "Concentrates" it's cooling just on the core. Check your airflow and see if the air passes through the graphics card adequately.

If not, then I'd check out the NV5 Silencer thing.

Another thing you might want to check is if the PSU you will be using will have long enough cables for that case.On many motherboards the ATX socket is located mostly in the upper portion which if installed upside down will increase the distance between the socket in the PSU.

I've never used an NV5 but the Arctic Cooling NV5 should work well in your system, not only cooling the videocard but also exhausting the majority of the heat drawn off of your videocard to the outside of your case!

I've got an HIS Excalibur X800 XT IceQ II PE (uses the ATI 4 Silencer) and it works quite well. As mentioned above it cools the ATI card and vents the heat out of the case, so you aren't building up all that heat inside the case. A lower ambient temp inside your case will help your CPU fan cool the CPU more efficiently - it won't have to work as hard and will run more quietly that way.

Also, the NV5 cooler should be considerably more quiet than a stock Nvidia cooler, also lowering the noise factor. I don't know how the NV5 compares to the VF700-Cu in terms of noise.

I'm sure the Zalman VF700-Cu is a good cooler, but it won't exhaust the hot air to the outside of the case, so you'll still have more heat buildup inside the case than with the NV5.

i have the zalman..
it is extremely quiet (i use it on my home theater computer)

it does occupy the slot next to the vid card.

highly recommend this cooler, if you have the adjacent slot to spare.

I have an NV5 on my 6800GT, which is extremely quiet, but the Zalman VF700 should also be considered. The only thing is that the NV5 blows the air out of the case, but I think the Zalman can be quieter.

I have the Zalman VF700-CU, and I have been nothing but happy with it! I cannot hear the fan running at all in silent mode. I have heard that the Zalman cools better and is quieter than the NV5, but I have never owned an NV5 so I can't give you a fair comparison. The biggest benefit to the NV5 is that it vents the air straight out of the computer. Depending on your airflow, this could help or hurt your computer.

I can see the VF-700 Cu (and most probably the VF-700 Al-Cu) cooling the GPU better than an NV5, but regardless of airflow inside the case, how do you think that directing the hot air (and thus heat) to the outside of the case will hurt the performance of his computer?

Venting that heat, which is substantial - outside of the case will most likely decrease the internal case temp. How much of a decrease is dependant on the airflow within the case. But even if the airflow is good, venting the heat to outside of the case is a plus because lowering the case's ambient temperature will boost his CPU's HSF efficiency by allowing the HSF to work more efficiently because it will be blowing cooler air onto the fins of the HS.

EDIT: BTW, I don't think that the CFM of the fan on the Silencer is enough to disrupt the airflow with a PC anyway.
