Which video card/chip is on par with a 9800XT?

I have an old 9800XT on my desktop. Had it for years, does what I need it to do. I'm looking for a laptop and I'm not familiar with all the new video cards that have come out recently.

Which model numbers of video cards are comparable to the performance of a 9800XT 256mb?

For example, ATI x1400? Nvidia Geforce2Go 7600? If I know whatever numbers they are, then I can assume that will be the lowest I can shoot for and any higher number will be better, right?

Thanks!

ok so a 7600GS is about on par with a 9800XT so anything higher than that would be better, and how about as far as ATI goes? Just in case I see a laptop that peaks my interest but it only has ATI as an option...

thanks again

You'd be looking at a Go7600 on the nvidia side and an x1600XT ati, if that's available on laptops. Both of those should be comparable, if not faster.

ATI = X700 Pro
nVidia = 6600GT

I know for sure that laptops have the X700. Not sure about what nVidia has in that range.

There's nothing else that's equivalent on ATI's side, except maybe the X1600 series.

nVidia = 7600 Go, 7600GT Go, 7700 Go (80nm so cooler)
ATi = Mobility Radeon X1600, X1700

Best options being the 7600, 7700 as they will outperform the X1600/X1700/9800XT which are all pretty similar.

In laptops, something on par with the 9800XT can be the X700, albeit a bit slower, almost insignificant, the differences only can be found depending of the core speed of the X700, but the X700 has 2 more vertex shaders than the 9800XT. The X1700 is just a rebranded X1600 with Avivo and Powerplay 6. They even has the same 157m transistor count and the same 12 pixel shaders, 4 texture units and 5 vertex shaders on the same 90nm manufacturing process. I have seen in many benchmarks that the X700 PRO desktop outperforms quite often the X1600XT desktop in most benchmarks, so the situation in the notebooks should be no different. On the nVidia side, the 7600 Go should be as fast as the 9800XT, so you can choose between the X700 and the 7600 Go.
