With that cable, you're not going to be able to get true HDTV because it converts from S-Video. You're going to need a DVI to Component video converter. Some TVs have DVI inputs and some newer ones have HDMI (you'll need DVI to HDMI adapter). Either way, you're going to need to use a DVI connector on the video card to display HDTV.

Can you just use an ordinary DVI cable to go straight from the DVI output on the card to the DVI input on the TV, if it has one?

You can buy a Component HDTV adapter from ATi (9500 and up), or you can use an S3 Delta/Omnichrome card.

That's not an S-Video out (it has extra pins in addition to just the S-Video ones); that card is capable of true HD component output with the right cables. PLEASE do not answer questions when you have not done the research.

As for the other questions: Yes, you can just use a regular DVI cable to connect to a TV with DVI in. You can also get adapters for DVI->HDMI, if your TV only has HDMI in (they're the same thing; HDMI just includes audio as well as the DVI video signal). And the RADEON 8500, and every one from the 9500 up, supports component output with an appropriate adapter from ATI.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if you could connect directly to a TV the way you would with an LCD monitor or if some adapter/convertor was required.

So, like the poster's original question, if you wanted to go to component video instead, I'm guessing you would use the tv-out port with the appropriate adapter. From the picture of the cables on that newegg link above, it kind of looks like the right-most cable is tv-out on one end (the mini-din connector that has 9 pins), and component on the other end. Kind of hard to tell exactly what those connectors are though.
