I've been using dual monitors for a while with a couple of dual PCI ATI cards, and I've decided they are too proletarian for a high-flyer like me. :)

I was going to order a Matrox Millennium G450, which is all I really need, but I thought maybe I would get a high-end AGP card plus a complimentary but compatible PCI card for the other monitor (actually both monitors are the same). So what are some recommendationns for me - I'm not a gamer, but I would like to have a high-end card in that AGP slot, while the PCI card must work seamlesslly with the the primary one.

OTOH, I don't want to go overboard, say, with an ELSA Gloria II or similar.

um, those PCI ATI cards are fine.

any AGP card will do actually.

but if you want a more complete dual monitor experience, the g450 is what you want. though there is nothing wrong with ago + pci. it's what i have.

if only the mythical g800 dual head exists...

No, the Guillemot/Hercules Dual Display MX card does [not support dual monitors, only 1 monitor + TV-out. They can do the TwinView stuff over the monitor and TV-out at the same time. It's one thing that irritates me about TwinView - just because a card supports TwinView doesn't mean it supports two monitors, so you have to double or triple check the card's specs. Unlike Matrox, where all DualHead cards support two monitors and TV-out.

Wait, so basically you are running dual monitors but you want to upgrade your video card? If you don't do 3d games your two cards are fine, as mentioned before, but if you really want a better card, you could get a G400/G450 with dual head and replace both ATI cards, or get a Geforce MX with "Twin View," or just get a regular AGP card and replace one of the PCI cards. Heck, you can just add in a G400 and have four monitors!!! =)
