Ok, i just loaded up SP1 and it is now fully "addressing" my 4GB ram. It says 4096 in the ram section.

It's lying to you. With 32bit Windows you'll only be able to use 2.8-3.5gb of ram(depending on your actual hardware). SP1 made the ram listing unusable. Pre SP1 told you how much ram you really had. To use all 4gb you'll have to get Vista64, otherwise there is no /fix/ to use all 4gb.

lxskllr is correct. Microsoft made that change with SP1 most likely to avoid this very issue.

It knows you have 4 GB installed but can't actually use it all, depending on your hardware. To be able to actually use all 4GB, you HAVE to get a 64 bit OS.

i thought that vista64 had all kinds of compatibility issues and poor support for a lot of stuff...

either way, i tried crysis and assassins creed just a bit ago and they both run phenominally in dx10 on my new hardware and with vista.

In isolated cases (particularly right after the launch of Vista) there were issues with Vista64, however if you search the forums you'll find that plenty of people are using it right now without a problem.
