My last JVC was an HR-S4800 purchased in September 2001 for $180.00. It's cheaply built compared to the old ones, but I love the tape transport on these new ones. I don't expect much from it, since it was so cheap, but it's working well so far.
The JVC before that was an HR-S5000U S-VHS HiFi unit purchased in December 1988 for $850.00. It's still going strong. Before that, we purchased our first VCR, which is a Sony SL-HF900 SuperBeta Hi-Fi editing deck with jog dial and stereo tuner. It was purchased in July 1985 for $1,250.00. A few years ago, I was still able to purchase a part for the tape eject mechanism, which had broken due to a toy being inserted into the tape carriage. It too is still working fine to this day.
