Which uses more memory: Win98 or Win2K?

Which one uses more physical memory? I am limited to 196mb. I think win98 seems to use less resources, but then again I heard win2k does a better job of managing the resources as well.

Win2k will use more Memory, but will also use it better.

With 196megs I would personally go with Win2k.

win2k uses more but the memory leaks in win98 which means after a long uptime, the memory will no longer be accessable by the OS making the system sluggish and making it necessary for a reboot.

With 196Mb ram I'd personally go for Win2K. It will manage it better and you will suffer less fatal crashes under Win2K than Win98.

Win2K supports up to 64G of memory if you have a processor that supports it (for Intel you need a chip with PAE extensions, I think most have it now though). Win98 is probably limited to 4G as that's the max addressable on a 32-bit processor without PAE.

The PSE36 flag is only used on Win2K AS (for up to 8GB of RAM) and Win2K DC (for up to 64GB of RAM).

For Intel processors, PSE36 is available on all Pentium Pro and later processors, but is actually only useable on Coppermine or later processors (this includes Pentium 4s).

Personally I won't be having any issues with the Win2K memory support anytime soon especially on my laptop 🙂

I will go with Win2k ... thanks!!!!!
