So, I figure that since I'm building a $2000 rig, I should at least give it clean power and protect it. I've narrowed it down to these two products, one from Belkin and one from APC:

BELKIN Enterprise F6C1100-UNV 1100VA 660W UPS - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16842101218
$109.99

APC BR1200 1200 VA 780 Watts UPS - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16842101006
$169.99

The Belkin is obviously cheaper. Both provide plenty of power to run my system. Both offer Active Voltage Regulation (although the Belkin just boosts voltage by 20% when it reaches ~95 volts).
The UPS needs to fulfill these to functions: give me 5-10 minutes to save work and shut down, and prevent the computer from crashing whenever the main line voltage drops momentarily (when the A/C turns on, for instance).

Either will suit you just fine. I would go with APC because I've had bad luck with belkin. I've also had bad luck wtih APC. Less bad luck with Belkin.

APC no question. That's also a pretty good model APC UPS. I would not touch a Belkin UPS with a 10 foot pole. Their power protection products are pure junk.

APC all the way. Belkin doesn't have the quality of other companies whether it be a NIC, UPS, mouse, whatever. APC's warranty is also better too.

are you familiar with the 9 stages of power correction? Perhaps you should see what you need, and which each UPS gives. There's some info at wikipedia, and also dan's data. Oh and APC all the way, my grandfather bought a belkin hub for some reason, and when I opened the box, I knew it was crap right away. They didn't even have wireless encryption on default or administrator passwords. Total crap, don't consider belkin.

Thats some good advice. You cant really expect people to give you purchase advice if they dont know what the requirements for the UPS are in your case.

Also be careful with brand preference tipps here, Belkin makes some pretty good UPS' (especially from a surge resistance and efficiency point of view) - many opinions here just seem to be based on third hand info or one bad experience, probably not even from that particular model...

I'm not going to question the quality of a Belkin UPS, but I can honestly say that I've never had any problems with warranty coverage claims with APC when there were problems. Their customer support people were great and understood that a business customer needs to have things turned around quickly to keep up-time. :)

Meh, I'm going with the APC. It's got more power, and APC seems to have a better reputation. I'll tell you all how my experience goes with it.

Thanks for the advice!
