Help please. I can't decide which of the upgrade options would give me the best price/performance "bang for my buck"
I currently have an Asus A7M266 mobo running Athlon 1200 CPU with 512 mb of PC2100 DDR. I have a GeForce4 Ti4200 128mb video card.
OPTION ONE: I can allegedly (according to ASUS) put an Athlon XP 2100 into my existing mobo. I can get this CPU for about $80 plus whatever appropriate HSF would cost.
OPTION TWO:I can splurge and go for the Asus P4P800 deluxe with 2x256 pc3200 and a P4 2.8c CPU for around $540.
I suspect the Athlon XP 2100 would keep me reasonably happy for another year. Would new introductions in CPUs in the next year affect my decision?
WHICH OPTION SHOULD I GO FOR?
Thank you for your input.
