Hey guys, Im currently in process of building a sweet gaming rig. I just basically want all my games to feel smooth..

I currently have the following hardware.

Xp 2800+@3200
Asus a7n8x deluxe 2.0
Corsair XMS TWINX1024-3200XLPRO 1 GIG
1 Seagate 120 gig Sata Hd 7200 rpm 8mb cache
Logitech z560 4.1 400 watt
Audigy 2 platinum ex
18.1 inch Envision Lcd 23ms (no ghosting)
Ati Radeon x800xt Platinum Edition

-----------------------------------------------
Question is, which upgrade would benefit my system the best? I can only do one of these for now, since i just finished purchasing my vid card and memory yesterday.

Should I shoot for an A64 setup or a pair of Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA for $178 a piece?

Thanks in advance...

If anything, maybe a A64. That will give you a nice boost in framerates for some games. Raptors might cut your level loading times by a few seconds, but won't do jack for your gaming performance.

What ScrapSilicon said....

I got a Raptor recently and it is fast, but I wouldn't switch from what you have unless you just have a burning desire to have a Raptor (or are in the market for a new SATA drive - putting together a new system or need to add additional storage).

To do a motherboard/cpu upgrade that is siginificantly faster than what you have, you would probably have to spend more than the $356 you mentioned, unless you offset the cost by selling your current board and cpu. Enjoy what you have for now (and watch for A64 prices to drop later in the year).
