Okay, i'm going to get a IWILL motherboard and a Thunderbird soon. Along with this i have the choice to get a 19' monitor, (Samsung 950P) or a U160 SCSI card, and a 9 gig 10,000RPM hd. If i got the SCSI HD i'd also get a large IDE one just for storage. If i got the monitor, i'd probaly do IDE raid. The monitor i have now is a IBM a 15' inch or so I think. It's not bad, it get's the job done. But still, bigger is better. =)

So which upgrade makes more sense? I'm a gamer basically, surf the net, about it. I plan to setup a server in college which i start in august.

I'd go monitor. Since everything that you see and do is presented on your monitor, that would be an important piece of hardware to look at.

Just how important is the server you're gonna set-up? I'd think IDE RAID would suffice 'cuz real hardware RAID costs more than an arm and a leg. I suggest get the monitor since you said that you're a gamer. You're senses will thank you for it. :)

I agree with the monitor choice. A few years ago I was really debating whether to upgrade monitors. Everytime I would think about monitors I would look at the prices, cringe and pocket my cash. Then I finally saw a great deal on a 21" monitor and bought it. Got the thing home and realized what I had been missing! Every other upgrade paled in comparison to having a big high quality monitor... And since I am also still using that monitor, it has been one of the more lasting upgrades.
