hi

im a noob at computer related stuff
and im not looking to stay at the cutting-edge

currently i have a p4 478 E 3.0Ghz HT 800Mhz FSB 1MB L2 Cache
kingston valueram 2x512mb 2.6v pc3200 dual
msi geforce2 ti 200
sb audigy gamer
ecs pt800ce-a mobo

im thinking of changing the mobo and video card and sound card

1. any suggestions on picking the motherboard? the only preference i have is that it be pci-e ready and have agp slot, cuz i dont have any pci-e video cards

2. is there any card that is fairly cheap and moderate in quality. enough to play most of the games on the market? wow for example

3. is there any cheap sound card?

thank you really much

Don't know of any socket 478 boards with both pci-e and agp. I suggest the abit is7 or msi. My msi overclocks well, but is discontinued. The Intel 865pe chipset with 4 dimm slots is a good choice for value and performance but only works with agp. Any boards with both agp and pci-e will be a compromise in either features or performance. The only exception may be the new uli 1695 boards for socket 939. Only one board is out now, made by asrock. Before ordering any new board, I suggest you download the manual off the manufacturer's website, and check the bios settings for voltage adjustments.

If it is working, that's not a bad system you have now.

If you are going to throw it out, you can throw it my way !!!!

I like ASUS motherboards.

Why don't you see if you can just get some more memory and perhaps a faster video card with more memory, if there is one in the AGP category ?

You did not mention the hard drive. You could consider getting one with a bit faster access time.

Good luck.
