Which TV would you get from www.crutchfield.com for under 2k?

My friend has a 2k gift certificate for this place and wants to buy a TV.. Which one would you buy and why? Probably a flat screen 32" +.. please let me know why too.. cause we don't know jack about TVs.. Thank You!

Personally, I think the Wega CRTs are overrated.

I'd get a Toshiba RPTV.

I wouldn't take a RPTV if you paid me. But Toshiba makes great TVs.

What kind of source material does your friend normally watch? More movies, or mostly TV? Is he interested in moving up to HDTV anytime soon?

In that price range, I'd look at a small 16:9 RPTV, but Crutchfield has poor selection. The 16:9 would be great for movies and HDTV (but then there's the added cost of a tuner...), but if you mostly watch standard definition TV in 4:3 aspect, it might be a waste.

How big is the room? How far away from the TV is the couch/chair/etc?

It's too bad the GC is for Crutchfield, and not someone like OneCall.

Paying $2k+ for a 36" TV is friggin ridiculous. You DO realize you're paying for a name, right? Yes they're good TVs but not that good. And don't get a 4:3 TV either unless you want it obsolete in 3 years.

Just checked their RPTV selection...they only carry Sony's??? Well there's one 56" JVC widescreen set for $2200. I'd take that over a 36" any day of the week. Damn.

need more info on his wants....does he want an hd set?? is he putting this in a large room or small?? what does he want in a set?

Well him nor I know anything about Tv's. He wants it for his basement and he has about 1500 in giftcertificates not 2.. i just talked to him. he just wanted something nice since its free with the certificates.. He originally was gonna get the 50"+ projection tv's but liked the clarity of the flat screens when he just watched on.. He mostly wantches cable on it so it hink that a 4:3 ratio TV would be better for him.. Just want some opinions. Thank you for all your input. He has $1500 in gift certificates that he must use.... He's not spending his own money on this.. so its not to rediculous to get a 2k tv in this situation.
