which TV tuner?

well, i have the hauppauge wintv-d, and let me assure you. although it's a decent card, the video quality is not very good. i've heard good thing about the all in wonder VE (my friend has one)...so i'd suggest that

emm...i just bought a phoebe tvmaster. The quality not bad ....but when comes to record video cassette is not as good as ati videocard.

<< ive got the ati tuner ve, works like crap on win2k. Worked well on win98se though. >>

Get the newest drivers. They make an incredible difference in stability for Win2k.

you mean the 7.1 MMC?? they still are crap.

that dTV program floating around makes it look super clean, but when i exit the sound doesnt close.

MMC is just crap, cant have a window on top or the program locks up....come on....defeats the whole purpose of a TV tuner.

My WinTV works great in Win2k. It will even capture directly to DivX (but won't capture the audio)

I have the WinTV Theater and it's a pretty good card. Nice Dolby 5 speaker surround sound support and FM radio too. TV works great on my primary and secondary card using the latest WDM drivers. Even has an IR remote control.

well i've tried ati all in wonder Radeon and i think it perform wonderful, of course that my opinion but you will have to do research to determine the best.

I've been using ATI All-In-Wonders for serveral years now. Have gone from the Pro, to the 128 Pro, to the Radeon in use with MS Win9x and 2K.

Ati's Multimedia Center has always been pretty decent for me. Sometmies had to download a patch or two to get it stable though.

The TV quality is not the greatest, that is to say it doesn't look anywhere near as good as a nice real TV, but as of yet I haven't found anything better and I would recommend it.

The AIW 128s and Radeons can capture TV directly to MPEG-2 which is quite a nice feature.

sohcrates - you say your WinTV-D isn't nice? Is that the case for digital TV broadcasts as well? I was considering getting one of these (or the WinTV-HD) since the digital screen shots definitly looked excellent. Guess that might not be such a great idea afterall.

I am using the WinTV-HD right now and have run it with Windows 98SE, Windows ME and now Windows XP RC-2 just fine. The regular cable signal looks good and the digital signals look even better (especially when scaling the window size). The only issue I have noticed so far is that none of the external VCR type programs seem to work with the Janus chipset that the card uses. It would be nice to use my computer as a psuedo-Tivo unit.

i've heard hauppage (spelling..?) is crap. not very good quality

apparently, the ati tv-wonder seems to be the current champ.

too bad there haven't been many new tv-tuners....the tv-wonder is over a year old

I won't argue that MMC is crap...it's certainly not the best of TV software, but I can have windows open on top just fine.
ICQ, IRC, IE..whatever. No problems.
