I had a lock up when I used the Nvidia 6.18 drivers because there was no overlay support, I used the Creative 6.18, and then it worked

They wont, either go back to 5.22, or see what the Hercules do

I have succesfully been using a Pinnacle Systems Studio PCTV Card with all my video cards without a problem (v3, tnt2u, geforce2mx). Now I am running on a hercules prophet II mx and detonator 3 drivers and not a single problem. I think the lockups are related to irq sharing. Make sure the tv card is on it's own irq and the video card is on it's own irq than you should have no lockups.

I'm using a hauppauge wintv pci and gforce ddr in w2k with nvidia's det3 6.18 drivers.

When I first installed the card the WinTV2000 app locked up, but after reinstalling making sure it had its own unique irq the everything ran fine.

I don't buy into the 6.18 drivers do not support overlay. That is wrong. If they did't support overlay then you would have no RealPlayer, MediaPlayer or DVD. I use the 6.18 drivers with an ATI TV Wonder and it works perfect, overlay and all. Hell, I think the drivers have an overlay control tab in the control panel applet. I have found out that changing anything in there from it's default screw up my tuner. May want to check there and reset to default and give it a go. Also, check your desktop color depth, resolution and refresh rate and try a few different ones. Lastly, try to "Force Primary" under the Hauppauge entry on the start menu. I switched from Hauppauge to ATI after almost 2 years with the Hauppauge crashing. The company updates it's drivers like every week and although driver support is important, updating drivers too often is a sign of problems.

That is somewhat unlikely. You can't get Microsot WHQL certification on video card drivers without supporting overlay, so I somehow doubt it's a feature they'd leave out.

I had the same kind of problem with a win-tv card, and it turned out to be an irq or bus-mastering slot problem, not really sure which one. I just had to move it from the lowest(shared) pci slot on my son's Abit BH6 to another available slot. Didn't show any conflict in device manager, just locked up solid when I opened the app.

I am not familiar with your board, but I have found it necessary to disable ACPI in the bios to solve irq problems. Not that I really understand ACPI very well at all, but it seems to want to throw everything together into a few shared irq's, and leave others unoccupied. If any members can link an article, it might be helpful.
