Which TV To get for console gaming

I would choose DLP. Cheaper for the size and better picture than LCD. Only thing to worry about with DLP's is that some people could notice a "rainbow" effect but if you get a newer DLP, most of them have eliminated that. Bulb replacement is not that big of an issue at all.

If you choose DLP I would get a Samsung DLP in the 50-60" range rather than the Mitsubishi.

My Samsung 50" 1080p works great with my PS3 (HDMI) and PS2 slim (component), and did a very good job of upscaling DVDs from a 480p component signal before I switched to using the PS3 for DVDs.

The main reasons you might prefer LCD are wider viewing angles (especially vertical) if you will be playing locally with others.

DLP will give you a bigger picture for the money and better colors, especially black. Blu-ray on DLP looks awesome.

I have a 65" Mitsubishi DLP and its great with my PS3. i been playing Resident Evil 5 on it lately and it is pretty good. i prefer the Star wars legos.

I had been doing some similiar research and the conclusion I came to was Mitsubishi DLP's suck and suck bdaly. Previous poster has had good luck with his but that seems to be rarity. OP I would either get an LCD or Plasma. Performance wise the Plasma will be better but you will always have that thought of burn in in th back of your head.

Get a LED DLP from samsung. The picture is better than an LCD and can only be beat by the better tiers of plasma.

Not to mention gaming on 60" or larger is just sweet. I've got a 67" as well as numerous other plasmas and LCDs so I'm posting with first hand knowledge.

I would listen to this man... I love my Sammy DLP and you can get a 61" Samsung LED DLP for ~$1500 right now.

Samsung LED DLP is the best

I bought the 67" for my parents, and it is excellent. However, I have not tried gaming on it. I have a 52" Samsung LCD, and I wish I had gotten the DLP.

The advantage of the LED is that there is no bulb to replace. IIRC, DLP bulbs run $200-$300 and must be replaced every 3 years assuming average use.

Don't go for DLP unless you can put it in a room you can keep dark and you're going to be sitting directly in front of it (sitting at any sort of angle resorts in massive degradation of picture quality, even on the best DLPs). Otherwise go for LCD/plasma.

oh yeah good point.

any kind of glare on it and it looks like shit.

You're really rehashing some old problems that old DLPs had. Viewing angle problems are largely fixed on newer DLPs, and they are FAR brighter.

Agreed. I notice no real difference on viewing angles or brightness between my Samsung LN52A550 and my parents' Samsung HL67A750.

I would also say that the "dark room" argument applies much more to any TV with a glossy screen (such as plasmas, or some LCD's). The glossy screens look great, as long as there aren't any light sources shining on it. Otherwise, go with a matte screen which isn't as reflective, but some people find "duller."

DLP's have a nice picture, but are heavy. Not sure if they still have lag issues? If not, and size/weight isn't a concern, I'd say DLP. Personally, I would go for a LCD since they are (more) portable and can double as a computer monitor. Not sure if DLP's are as good for that?

No they're not... my 46" DLP weighs about 40lbs. My mom's 42" Plasma weighs about 80lbs.

Also, I use my DLP as a computer monitor just fine and in fact, that's the way I play my media (screw using the 360 as a media extender with its limited capabilities).

it really isn't that big of a problem as long as you have a nice room just about specifically for the TV (basements or rooms with few windows and/or really good curtains/blinds)

and who isn't going to have a nice couch or recliner right in front of a TV in such a room?

However I really am tired of the apologists for DLP - quit defending your purchases, DLPs have weaknesses just like LCDs and plasmas, they aren't perfect. Theres a reason stores keep the DLPs in their own section away from the wall of LCDs and plasmas - its because they look like a joke when side by side with just a casual glance (as you're usually not right in front of the screen, and the store is lit pretty damn well, more than you'd want a room with a DLP to be lit)

No one said DLPs are perfect. They're just cheaper if you want a 50"+, and have a better picture if you stay within the cone of good viewing angle goodness.
