So i've decided to buy a big screen tv and ive narrowed it down to a 56 inch Samsung DLP projection tv and the Sony Grand Wega 55 inch. Anyone have any idea which is better? or have a recommendation which of these or even another tv is best? thanks!

little update....

So i decided to go with the Samsung 56 inch DLP Projection
http://reviews.cnet.com/Samsun...5-6484_7-31008492.html

This tv is awesome, i highly recommend it to anyone in the market, the picture is perfect and the set itself looks very unique. Everyone thats seen it loves it. ... thanks to those that helped me pick!

btw, I (or anyone else thats watched my tv) havnt noticed any rainbow effects. I also read many people saying they had response lags with ps2, i tried a ps2 and didnt notice any problems...

It's a matter of preference.

ADVANTAGE:

Design: Your preference
Contrast: DLP, especially if you're talking about the HL-P5685W (as opposed to the HL-P5663W or HL-P5674W)
Black level: DLP
Shadow detail: DLP
Color accuracy: tie (DLP's tend to be more accurate, the Sony will tend a bit towards red, giving it some more visual "pop")
Practical bulb life: tie
Screen door effect: DLP
Rainbow Effect: LCD
Response time: DLP
Lifespan: probably DLP

I'd also look into the Toshiba DLP, which uses a HD2+ chip, like the Samsung xx85 sets.

Make sure you watch a DLP for awhile before you buy and make sure you don't see the rainbow effect.

Sony's are crap.

Their GWIII was riddled with problems. I would not shell out that kind of money for a product Sony will not stand behind.

Sony /= Quality or reliability

That was in the past.

Yeah. Sony used to be the bomb... I have 27'' Trinitron that is about 10 years old and looks better than all the "standard" TVs they have in stores nowadays.

if cost is no issue, go for the DLP. (just make sure it's the new model)

The HLPxx74W has the HD2+ chip as does the HLPxx85W (captain kirk model). The HLPxx63W uses the HD3 chip. They are all supposed to get seven segment color wheels eventually.

My mistake on the 74W, I thought it was using the inferior HD3 chip like the 63W.

Think about plasma as well. I debated between DLP and Plasma and plasmas are more durable now, less prone to burn-in, and the new panasonic models have 60,000 till half brightness. Very happy with my TH-PWD6UY plasma and wall mounting one saves lots of space. I researched a lot and it seemed like although DLP has a great picture, it's still a projection and will still have limited viewing angles. Also, there are too many things on a DLP that can go wrong, like the color wheel or the bulb.

Some of the new Samsung DLPs have a problem with video and audio lag. Its well documented on AVS forum. Do some research there.

What are you talking about? Plasmas have horrible burn in. DLPs and LCDs have no burn in.

I own the 50" Sony DLP and have owned tons of other Sony products over the years.
I would highly recommend it to anyone. If there is ever a problem with a product
they are quick to address it. As with Samsung, i've owned a dvd player and it doesnt
work very well at the moment. everyone has their own experiences. mine is with SONY.

I have a Boxlight DLP projector and I am very happy with it,
I also just bought a Samsung DLP 46" TV Very happy with it as well.
Games not a problem. I have never seen a responce time issue, Nor have I ever seen the rainbow effect.

I put my money on the DLP..
