Which TV should I get?

I am in search of a TV for my bedroom. I am wanting it to be atleast 30" or around that. Needs to have a flat screen and also be under $500. I'm a student so the cheaper the better 🙂 Circuit city has a few, and so does bestbuy, but I was wondering if there are any special deals online where they offer free shipping or something like that?

and is it worth it to check out eBay or will I get raped on shipping charges?

any comments would be helpful!
thanks in advance,
mike-

My roommate was able to get his 32in flat Toshiba for $500. It was sort of a special case though. I think you should try to find your best deal on one of those, IIRC you can get one for like $560 this week (or maybe it was last week) and BB.

Unless the seller offers local pick-up, you will get raped w/ shipping charges IMO mtbiac 🙁

For under $500.00, look at Toshiba & Panasonic as a good start 🙂

i got a 27" one.... cost me <500 usd

1080i HDTV.... xbox rocks on it also hooked up to z560.... cheap home system

wow 1080i is pretty sweet. Can it display Cable TV at that resolution?

and I'll assume it would be sweet to use w/ my TVOUT for watching divx/dvds from computer?

and where can you buy these??

thanks

For 500 bucks, any hdtv will suck. I didn't mean quality, but its just way too small. Stick with a regular 32 flat. You're a student, you want as much space as possible for xbox and ps2 and such. Go to best buy or circuit city and get the tv from them, some other freebie like a tv stand, chair or maybe some money back. Apply for their card and pay like 15 bucks a month, saving you some money now.

If you want a good TV, get any Sony, just don't buy Samsung.

you are out of your mind.... Samsungs are one of the best TVs out there, and Sonys are one of the crappiest ones...
My parents Samsung has been working since as long as I can remember and every Sony TV we bought died in 3-4 years...

Unfortuately, this is where you're wrong. Samsung makes only crap (compared to Sony). Period. I don't mean it's unreliable, it's just cheap stuff and you won't get that kind of viewing enjoyment as with a Sony.

I use to only buy sony exclusively

19xx... bought a trinitron 27"
1995... bought a panasonic.... crap... returned it
1999... bought 20"wega, new 27"trinitron

2003 samsung 1080i hdtv.... light touch "buttons"

and Sony TV's are overpriced and overrated. They were great during the 90's and before.

Another vote for Panasonic Tau, Toshiba Cinema Series or JVC.

I cant decide either.

I just got back from some more browsing, and looked at a few of the Samsung's that were reccomended to me, and I cant say im that impressed. Samsung TV's, HD or Analog, look like crap to me. No matter how much I mess with the settings, they just look blurry. Horrible "blooming" effects also. Main reason why I didnt consider them in the first place.

One could argue that Sony TV's are might be overpriced, but definitly not under-performing. For analog sets, you cant beat Sony's 310 Series, paired with the 3D Comb Filter, it makes standard cable about as good as it possibly can. Panasonic, Toshiba are also very good analog sets IMO, although none of theyre models have a 3D Comb Filter. I dont care for Apex, or other "off" brands, I just dont feel like im getting the best picture. But, to each his own.

mtbiac, basically it comes down to what you use youre TV for the most. If you plan on watching standard cable, or even digital cable, I wouldnt get an HD set as it WILL look horrible. But, if you plan on getting Direct TV or watch only DVD's, HD would be a great choice. But than again, I have yet to see a sub $500 dollar HD set that doesnt look like sh!t.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

well it will be used mainly for cable TV and watching DIVX/DVDs off of my main computer via the video out. I also will use it with console gaming (PS2, etc) but I dont play this very often...

I'm confused as to what features I should be looking for. My brother has a flatscreen Apex which was $500 about a year ago. It displays his DVDs from an HTPC VERY nicely imo, and cable TV looks good too....

thanks for any further help

I forgot to add that next year I will be moving into a dorm that is too small to hold a TV of this size which is also why price is a concern. I could probably convince parents/bro to buy it off me, but I'd probably be losing around $200.... anyways....

I just bought a Sony Wega Flatscreen 24" for my bedroom. I love it. The picture quality is outstanding, and the set is good-looking too. I was considering a Samsung model, but I didn't like the build-quality. IMO, Sony's are overpriced, but I also think they're of better quality construction and design.

well I just went to Best Buy to check out the selection. They had this nice 27" Panasonic flat-screen TV for $350. Only problem is that it didnt have 16:9, while others in the price range did. However, the panasonic picture quality looked the best....

OR

I could get, for $380, an Advent 32" flat-screen. It had decent picture quality. Not sure If i want smaller with great quality or 32" with mediocre. I already have dual 21" sony trinitron computer monitors (got verrry cheap refurbed...)

thanks for any advice
