Which to use: 7600GT, X1800GTO or X800 XT PE?

Ok here's the scoop, I hope it all makes sense & pardon my ignorence of the latest hardware.
My 9800pro's (AGP) fan litrally fell of the board.
So I found an 'X800 XT PE AGP' locally for a fair price. It works ok, however when running it at my monitors(ViewSonic VA2012wb 20.1" LCD) 1680x1050 optimum resolution while playing BF2 on medium settings, it tends to bring the card to it's knees. It just looks too nice not to play at this res & quality. Any other res is too stretched & blocky.
So I'm wondering if upgrading to a '7600GT or X1800GTO PCI-E' would improve my FPS while making my pc a bit more future proof.
The idea being I would buy a new $60 Socket 754 MOBO w/PCI-E (that I've already found) as my current one is AGP. The total investment would then be around $200(most to be made from selling my X800 XT PE) which is all I can spend right now. I figure with PCI-E I can always upgrade the vid card later for an even faster one. I'm just wondering if my AMD 64 3200 Proc is holding me back more than the video card. Or is there another suggestion that would not cost more than $200? Thanks in advance!

Current rig includes:

CPU: AMD 64 3200 2200MHz
Motherboard: ASUS K8V SE Deluxe
Memory: 1536 MB(3 sticks) of Kingston HyperX PC4000 DDR 500
Video Card: ATI Radeon X800 XT PE AGP
Sound Card: Creative Blaster Live
Power supply: Enermax Noisetaker 475/470
Hard Drives: 2 Seagate Barracuda 80.0 GB @ 7200 RPMS in Raid 0 & 1 40GB Maxtor
Win XP Pro

Grab a 7900gs for a cheap descent upgrade.... (Used 160$) (new about 190$).

The 7600gt will be equal to a x800xt pe agp, for only 120 bucks or so.

The X1800GTO is slower than both, the 7600GT and the X800XT PE. The performance on both would be the same, but the 256-Bits Bus of the Radeon X800XT PE may give it a slight advantage over very high resolutions and lots of anti aliasing, which has been always the strong point in ati cards, but if you care about HDR and SM 3.0, choose the 7600GT, but at those resolutions I doubt it has the horsepower to run them both. I have a X800XT PE and at resolutions of 1024x768 and 1280x1024 I haven't found a game that would make struggle this card with 4x Anti Aliasing (Except the Buggy Soft Shadows of F.E.A.R., Opt to disable this one).

The 7600GT 'should' be faster than the x800 for the most part. It also has SM3.0, which IMO, should be considered when getting a new card.

Anyways, I would get a 7600GT.

I also have one I might be selling. 1650mhz on the memory is possible :)

I think you guys are confusing the gto with something else. The gto is faster than either of the two other cards in BF2 (with AA enabled, of course).
http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/hard...n_x1900_gt/10/#abschnitt_battlefield_2
Overall, however, the 3 cards are close enough in performance that I would not switch from one to the other and call it an upgrade. If you're switching to PCI-e, then I would recommend a x1900pro for $200 as it offers the most performance and features for that price (it's slightly faster than the x1900gt on the charts I linked)

Ok, then.
Can anyone suggest a Resolution that would be close in quality to my native resolution that I could try?

X1900pro at 200.00$ FTW!

At theorical level, http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=386&card2=39
The X800XT PE is faster. Here look the benchmarks. http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics....elx=33&model1=554&model2=575&chart=211 This shows the Oblivion game running at 1600x1200, the X800XT PE outperforming the X1800GTO by 16fps, 32 against 48, may be is not something great, but still noticeable. Even the X800XT PE manages to run the same or slighly ahead of the X1800XL which is tad faster than the X1800GTO.

Gpurevirew only gives me specs and numbers, for the real test of theoretical performance look at this B3D article on the r520 gpu: http://www.beyond3d.com/reviews/ati/r520/
In most cases the x1800xl is faster than the higher clocked x850xt pe due to a more advanced architecture. Of course the gto is not as fast as the xl, but it still benefits from the newer architecture, such as taking a smaller hit from enabling AA. Also, I dont put much faith in tomshardware because this isnt the first time their results contradict the findings of other sites, while the german site I linked is one of the few sites that know how to do a quality review, they even used HQ driver setting on the 7-series cards to get rid of shimmerfest optimizations - something that most other sites just ignore.
