ok here is the deal i can trade my i3 2120 + 60 cash for a i5 2400 or my i3 2120 + 100 dollars cash for a 2500k is the extra 40 worth it? because what would happen is my ra buys all parts for his gaming pc that he wants me to build him with either a 2400 or 2500k then trades me cpus + cash to save him money and get me some extra power

so which should i do cough up an extra 40 dollars and get a 2500k and be set or go with a 2400 and have a strong system.

2500k is worthwhile only if you want to overclock and you have a Z68 or P67 mobo that's capable of overclocking.

I think that the Intel® Core™ i5-2500K is one of the best gaming CPUs that we have ever released for the simple reason that the price is reasonable and the performance is top of the line. With the ability to easly overclock the Intel Core i5-2500K you can get more value out of this processor investment then you would on almost anything else that we have had in for a long time.

Even if the Op had a h67 or h61 a 2500k could make sense if there was plans of a motherboard swap later on down the road.

Next week i'm replacing my i3 2100 with a i5 2500k and gonna drop it into my h67 motherboard then later on i aim to grab a z68🙂

Then i could upgrade a friends pc who has 4gb of ram and a stock x2 550 and give her the i3 2100 and h67 motherboard which should yield big improvements in her games like the COD franchise and BC2🙂

Grab a SSD for that laptop and things will be fast,, if ur using mechanical hard drive youll have lots of slow lag.
