what chipset are you talking about?

I've used Elsa Geforce 2 MX's and GTS' and the 2d quality is excellent, and almost as sharp as the Radeon, even at 1600x1200@85hz. So if 2d quality as well as speed is important to you, you can't go too far wrong with an Elsa based card.

Although i'd still rather have a Radeon ;)

VisionTek manufactures the GeForce2 cards for Elsa, so same boat there. I'd say VisionTek. Just my $0.02:p

The visiontek geforce 2mx was the cheapest when I bought it aroung X-mas. My cpu is my big bottleneck right now (Celeron 300a @ 450) but I get alot better 3dmark scores than with my old voodoo3 3000 agp. The only thing I can find wrong with the visiontek is that the memory is already overclocked by default. I can only get about another 5mHZ out of it w/o problems. It runs hot to the touch, and I'm having trouble finding heatsinks for the memory. Good luck, and I've heard great things about the Hercules model.

I have a leadtek, and I have no complaints.

Basicly its just a plan old GTS with a big heatsink. No real extra features.

But who needs features when you have to use the manufactures drivers to actually use them? I don't think I have once had Leadtek drivers, all been leaked stuff ;)

Here's my vote for Leadtek. I have the Leadtek GTS 32mb and it has been nothing but joy for me. Excellent 2D quality too.

elsa card and visiontek are the same card and have been repetedly shown to have best 2d of all gts's why not reccomend those cause all gts's are basically the same but with those two you get good 2d?

I vote for Visiontek.
Since Visiontek supplies Elsa, you can use any of the Elsa drivers or addons like ViVo module, after flashing the Bios. Comparing the Elsa and Visiontek cards, shows that the Visiontek card actually has "more" connectors on it for addons, and the construction quality looks to be much better with the Visiontek, compared to the Elsa. Other than that, (and price), both cards are identical in performance and image quality, which is the best of the GF2 GTS cards. Also, the Visiontek cards are the only ones made in the USA. Even some Elsa cards are made in a plant in Hungrey.

I just put in an Elsa Gladiac GTS and noticed very poor 2d compared to my old Hercules Geforce SDR. There is very apparent ghosting with text on a white background. I've swapped them back and forth several times and I can tell the difference very easily. Maybe its just a handful of boards...

Yes me too. I had 2 Visiontek GTS's and they were extremely poor also. The worse I have ever seen. Apparently they make the Elsa, so that would explain it. I believe Visiontek must use low quality components!

I just got a Leadtek GTS and think it is great it has TV out which I have not used yet but the 2d quality was better than I thought it would be and games play a lot better than they did with my old Hercules MX card

i have the leadtek pro 64 mb, not the ultra, and for the price i paid, i don't think i could've gotten a better video card in aspects of 2d or 3d... then again, that's just my opinion... btw, voodoo cards now officially suck.. =)

Just to put my 2 cents in, the Leadtek Geforce2's are faster in high resolutions in every bench I have seen. But of course, it is maybe 2 fps we are talking about here. heh.:Q

This just in:
Visiontek soon to be selling Retail.
Visiontek customers looking elsewhere.
Many Elsa cards now selling are NOT made by Visiontek.
Elsa cards made by Visiontek say "Made in USA".
Elsa cards made by crap, now say "Made in Hungery".

Also, take a close look at the cards.
Visiontek made cards have extra components, plugs, and screws, as well as solding that looks to be done by professionals. The new Elsa cards have none of these extra's, or even quality soldering. Retail Elsa cards sold by Buy.com were the ones compared. This would explain why some Elsa buyers are now getting poor 2d.

elsa is the best of those three purely from a quality standpoint, leadtek is probably the best from a price/performance ratio, and visiontek, while nto bad, is sold mostly as an oem card for a reason....
