which to get 6800NU or 6600 GT ? there is about a 50 dollar price difference between the two.
I need the APG version

The anandtech half life 2 GPU shoot doesnt show much difference

However the 6800NU has 256 bit memory bandwith, will this make a difference in other games?

Will my cpu be a limiting factor with a 6800NU?

My current systems is

XP 3200 cpu
512 ram in dual channel 2x256
320 watt antec power supply
60 gig maxtor dimond max 8 meg cache
nforce 2 MB
dell 2005fpw 20 inch Lcd

Thanks

Read the Doom3 and 6600 reviews, there just isn't much difference at 1024x768, especially with "only" an XP 3200+.

If you can wait for the AGP price of the 6600GT to get closer to $200 then I'd say 6600GT for sure. If you have to buy today then the 6800 is a little more future-proof and might be more worth keeping when you move to an A64.

so my xp 3200+ is going to be a limiting factor?

this summer i plan on moving to a A64 and PCI-E DD2

so maybe i should just go with the 6600gt?

If you are doing that....why not just wait on a video card and save some money?

Just get a 6800NU and unlocked it, ive had one and unlocked it performed at GT levels.

I would not even consider a 6600 GT if I could get a 6800NU for $50 more.

Agreed. If you are into OCing at all the 6800 NU is the better choice. All you have to do is run a program "Riva Tuner" and you can potentially have a 6800 GT or Ultra for the price of a NU.

I don't think that unlocking the pipes is the same thing as overclocking. It occurs much safer to me and safe to do even if you don't want to worry about inproved cooling and whatnot.

I think the big question is whether you want 256 megs of RAM which you can't get with 6800 NU.

Unless somebody figure out how to unlock the other 128 MB 🙂

If you do plan on going to an PCI-E motherboard this summer - getting an AGP video card now may be a waste most PCI-E motherboards will not have an AGP slot on them.
