Hi All,

I am looking to quiet down my Athlon XP 2800+ a little bit. Currently its on stock heatsink/fan.

I am leaning towards two Thermaltake products:

POLO 735 Extreme 3 in 1 Cooler

or

Silent Boost K7

The POLO 735 is a little bit expensive than the Silent boost. They both seem to have the same noise level, only difference I could find was that the Life Expectation of POLO is 80,000 Hours compared to 60,000 hours of the Silent boost.

What do you guys think? Which one should I buy? Thanks.

If your motherboard has four mounting holes around your CPU get this one:
Zalman CNPS 7000A AlCu - great hsf, comes with fan controller

If you don't have 4 mounting holes around the socket, get the
Thermalright SLK-900A and put a Panaflo L1A 80mm on top of it. YOu may still need to get a fan controller for this one, but unless the rest of your system is quiet it won't matter

The thermaltakes use inferior fans which are considerably noisier than the fans used on these two. The Zalman is gernerally considered the best silent hsf at around $30 but if you don't have mounting holes then the SLK-900A is it's equal but will be slightly more expensive.

I've never actually used the Polo, but I can vouch for the Slientboost, it's a nice little HS/F combo, works well for the price.

Not as good as the Zalman mentioned above, but it's cheaper, and fairly effective.

Actually I've heard that at least the Silent Boost model uses a Panaflo fan. Can anybody verify this?

There are two versions, one dose, the other doesn?t, either way the 21 dba claim is a lie.

Your better off with Zalman, Alpha or Thermalright.

Thanks guys!

My cheap motherboard (ECS KT600-A) doesn't have mounting holes and is not listed as compatible with any of the Thermalright products. :-(

Looks like I will go with the POLO since it has got a fan controller.

You don't need mounting holes for the AXP: SLK-900A uses the typical clip system.

Or the ALX-800, its a bit cheaper.

My motherboard (ECS KT600A) is not listed in the compatibility list. SLK-900a Motherboard compatibility

Operandi, do you think the SLK-900a will fit my motherboard?

This zalman fan looks ok to me: ZM-F1(80mm)

Also where do you put the fan on that heatsink?

The 900A is compatible with pretty much everything, you should be fine.

The fan is mounted via clips, there should be instructions in the package as far as how you mount the fan. That Zalman looks fine.
