Which technologies are coming up?

I will get myself a new PC in the not too distant future and would like to know if any new technological advances are coming up? I am not a heavy user (nor a heavy gamer) but I want a FAST PC.

Video: PCI Express is pretty new. Is there anything better coming in the near future?

Storage: Is there anything better than SATA coming soon? I think I heard about SATA 2. Will it happen? When?

Is there any other new technology coming in the next 6 months that could make my PC faster.?

SATA II is out I believe.

Other than DDR2, PCI-E, I don't think anything in the next 6 months will have a huge impact. Doubt there's something better than PCI-E for a long time.

Question : Why would you want all the newer sh!t? Can't PCs nowadays handle everything????? Or you can't get enough? Lol

Do you WANT or NEED a faster PC. If you don't game, video/audio edit/mix/render, or CAD/CAM you don't really NEED a fast PC. If you just WANT one, that's more about bragging rights.

I WANT but do not NEED a faster PC.

This has nothing to do with bragging rights. I just want the best technology. I do not upgrade often and when I do I like to get the best.

Nobody needs a $50 (or more) wine bottle. Many get some nevertheless just for their own pleasure. Same thing here.

I can understand that.

Best of the best near term: nForce4 SLI, FX-55, Nvidia 6800 Ultra x2, best DDR RAM you can find. (That's a lot of money!) Also check out the System Buyers Guide in General Hardware forum.

IF you want the best of the best get a Ncch-DL asus dual cpu xeon cpu not many know it but these things are blazing fast faster even than a 55FX AMD ASus Also have one for PCI E thats even faster yet ! Intel still reins as king !!!!! go to future mark and check these babies out blazing fast I hate to rain on AMD 64 55 FX party but its pouring !!!!!!!!!!!

You're into a whole other class of hardware.

The Ncch-DL is a server board. Yes it's fast in PCMark04 which tests office type programs. In gaming, the A64 FX-55 is still tops. These are knowns. But to compare dual xeons, you should really look at dual opterons. And Denis54, if you really want something crazy get a new 4-way opteron server. You'll only have to drop +$8K.:disgust:

funny...last i heard, the fx was compared to the P4 EE! if you want to compare a dually xeon with amd, compare it with a dually opteron. opteron still tops the chart, though only by a little bit. so much for new technolgy vs old.

MY MY you guys Ncch -DL with a X800XT is faster than any AMD solution hands down I don't care if you use 10 opt's THIS board is based on the 875 chipset with a new memory controller and 6300ESB ICh northbrige. 2 3.6 GHZ 64 bit nacona's cpu's.GO read the reviews. IF you want the ultmate gaming solution for online gaming this is it . ALSO PC_DL are looking really strong in PC Mark 05 but these are only 3.06 GHz with 533FSB scoring between 7000-8000 in PCmark 05 thats 1 strong gaming rig.....CAN you tell me were i can find opty's scores for pc mark 05 the gaming benchmark scores I can't find any anywhere. AS for SLI if i did a lot of lan parties that would be so cool but fact is i use my p4 not my amd for on line gaming. why because the p4 is smoother and I only have a 1.5 meg down and a 875K up connection so my connection can't even come close to running my games at top speed not even close to it. when I play offline i can't see 10fps when its already running perfect . So if you spend a lot of money on a cpu for online gaming thats fine but your only as fast as your connection. So to me whats cool is 2 intel cpu;s DDR1 memory and a great looking case with water running everwhere.than when I do web work or video editing I can do that even faster and smile while doing it. SO if your going to talk about the Ultimate gaming machine you well see it this year 05 IT well be something like this SLI video dual Intel cpu's DDR2 and lighting. See the problem is this. My X800XT is already cpu bond so when i O/C it it really starts getting faster but I can only go so far . So now we add SLI to the mix now I am really bound up cpu wise. To me if I want it all to come together I also need a second processor And because of intels memory controller being on the chipset the fastest solution is and well remain Intel. MYself I well stay with 1 video card and DDR1 memory with 2 nacona'cpu's

That is interesting. I haven't really heard people argue for a multiprocessor board for gaming. I wonder if it's a cost issue or something more . . .

Sounds like the topic for a new post. Zinn2b, please join since it sounds like you have some experience with this.
