Which Team to Join?

Okay, I want to join a DC team. I used to do S@H but just me, no team, so I am familiar with the concept of it.

What I want to know is, which team would be better to join? F@H or S@H? As I said I already did Seti, so am familiar with it and it's objectives, but I could use a refresher. What is F@H trying to do?

I have a good computer for this, dual-proc and I leave it on at home most of the time so it is sitting idle anyways.

Well you can do both
You can add your old seti account to the seti team.Helping us that way and setup a new folding account and start folding again helping the team.

Question, with HT enabled, can I do both on one proc or is that going to be too slow?

I do use this PC at night for couple of hours, and rare use during the day by the wife. Otherwise I would just set proc affinity for each to it's own proc and run it that way.

You could run both, but some DC apps don't like coexisting with others, but I'm not sure about SETI and F@H together. Here's the F@H FAQ thread, should answer a lot of your questions about F@H.

seti and f@h do play fairly well together, and as far as the HT bit I'm not sure but I think you can seperate the two (the logical subsystem in windows should do it for you afik, by simply running one instance of each program.)

Hi magratton
F@H does research on how proteins form.
The diseases they hope to find cures for include: Alzheimers, Parkinsons, ALS, Madcow, and others.

F@H is very friendly to the user. I have four instances running on this dual HT rig right now, 1GB ram in PC-DL with 2 x Xeon 1.6 @ 2.5. F@H runs as an idle process, so whenever I need cycles F@H gives them up quickly. (there is one game that the kids play that they notice it running) but I don't notice F@H running! HT gives me 11% to 31% more production on the P4 3.0C@3.3, haven't had a chance to check this new dually yet :)

I know that S@H Classic could really use your points, they are in a tight race with BBR til the end. Just by joining, the points you already have are added to TeAm AnandTech under your name.

Thanks :)

Yes, it should not be a problem assigning processes to each "cpu".
When I ran one with two seti processes (an OC'd P4E) I was averaging almost one WU / hour. ;)

Well, I joined both. S@H Team Anandtech got 58pts from me just then...

I setup my duallie with the following:
HT Enabled
loaded both F@H and S@H
Task Mgr-> Set Affinity on F@H to CPU1 and S@H to CPU3
They run constantly at 25%

I was able to play BFV-online, Doom3, etc with both of these running and barely any noticeable difference. So, run they shall unless a lightening storm hits us.

So is this a HT dually? 4 processes in you task manager?
If so you can run 4 instances of your fav DC projects. They will get out of the way when you need cpu time.
I use seti driver to run 2 instances on a 2 cpu machine, but you can also run each from it's own directory.
If you do this you will see almost double your output. ;)

Yes, HT Dually Xeons.

Just slow ECC Ram and no ability to OC FSB. But lots of RAM. So I setup the big wu's as indicated above for F@H.

Yeah I noticed that no matter how hard I try to force them, neither F@H nor S@H will run at higher than 25%. Also, I noticed that even with both of these running spread across all cpu instances I was able to play Doom 3 with no interruption. Very nice.

I will look into running multiple instances of F@H and S@H and see if I can crank up the throughput.
