I recently bought a few boxed 1.2 ghz (200 fsb) processors. Are they factory unlocked?

Yeah you can connect them yourself using a lead pencil. There is a website with detailed info on how to do this, but I can't think of the exact site. The best way to do it is get a mechanical lead pencil and a magnifying glass and very carefully fill in the gaps to make a solid line across the L1 bridge

<< All 1.2ghz+ Thunderbirds and all 1ghz and 1.2ghz Athlon MP's are unlocked. >>

Change that to the vast majority, and you'll have it correct. Definitely not all of them. When the T-Bird at 1.2GHz was first released they were almost always locked originally, though it's pretty much the opposite now. Still, even now you will come across the occasional AthlonMP and T-Bird 1.2GHz+ that's locked.

I've seen a few T-Birds that are 1.4GHz that are locked, and a fair handful at 1.2GHz that are locked, as well as a couple AthlonMP's.

It's pretty good actually. I only have a GF DDR as my other vid card, and it has much better image quality than my GF, but the GF has better 2D than the GF2 GTS I had. I play most games @ 1280 x 1024 x 32 or 1600 x 1200 x 32 and it runs everything smooth. I have the Retail 64MB VIVO, so I have the faster 5.5ns memory. I run mine o/c to 210/210.. I will be snagging a GF3 soon though...:)

I would agree with that. The problems is that there have been very few locked 1.2ghz+ CPU's..although I am sure they exist. Essentially, it's safe to say that there is a 95% chance that any newly purchased 1.2ghz + CPU is unlocked. :) Also, I had a few pre-AVIA/AXIA 1.2ghz, and they were unlocked. It would surprise me to see a locked MP though...but I guess anything is possible. :)

"How do I know if it's locked or unlocked?"

The L1 bridges would all be connected. To find out on a Retail chip, you would need to open the box though..:(
