Quicken & TurboTax are the same. Product is from Intuit.

I have independent consulting income and use TurboTax with no problems. I purchase the Deluxe version only becuase, after all rebates, it comes out free, vs the regular version which costs some $$ after I get state versions.

TurboTax has a small business edition also for about $50. I have not checked into it, others may have some feedback.
The Turbotax website has a checklist showing the differences between the different versions.

PM me if you need more on the 2001 Deluxe product. I do not need it anymore.

I use Quicken TurboTax and like it alot. An accounting friend of mine uses TaxCut because he says it suggests more deductions. I think they are both good.

I went to the Quicken.com and check for update to see if they have update for turbotax 2000 update for 2001 tax, but they said people have to buy a new 2001 turbotax due to the big changes. What is this???

I was going to buy a Tutbotax 2001 Home and Business (since they have a rebate) and it's my first time buying a tax software. I was going to study with it preparing for the next year's tax (2002). Do I have to buy a new one 2002 tax software???

is that normal?? to buy a new tax software every year???

please respond
thanks

Congress changes the tax laws every year therfore the tax software rules have to change. Rather than them providing an update/upgrade route, once you are hooked:(, they can convince you to by the new product each year.:disgust:

The only logical reasoning for this, is if you had upgraded your system (as a dumb user) and then you needed to go back a year or two, the upgrades would have destroyed the preious year's rules.

I actually had to re-create my 2000 return for the IRS, they had lost it.

I have run a small consulting S/W business and the TurboTax deluxe version works fine. I use this version only because of the rebate situation. The Small Business edition is tailored more toward the way a business operates in terms of the questions and direction they lead you in. However, any of the TurboTax products will allow you to do the business returns.

Practice is not really needed. Just have all the info readly at hand. The Quicken S/W line, (Basic/QuickBooks) can be sucked into the TurboTax for ease of data transfer. However, this then requires you to maintain that information correctly and/or get it transfered from your existing accounting methods.
