Which system should I get?

The more expensive one is definitely stronger, but you can get better options from the Dell Outlet. A similar computer to the first one (2nd generation i3 processor, 6GB RAM, 1TB HDD) runs only $380 the last time I checked.

For the price of the first system, I'd get a laptop. Newegg has this one on sale right now:

Much better than the systems listed above, with a HD4000 IGP in case you want to play some basic games. And since it's a laptop, you can take it with you, or you can just leave it plugged in (take out the battery) and use it like a desktop. Basic keyboard and mouse from amazon will set you back maybe $15-20.

I'm not sure that's actually better considering it's a mobile i5 (so it actually has 2 cores) clocked lower than the i3 in the more expensive desktop he listed, plus it has less RAM.

Ah you're right, I forgot that the mobile i5s are dual-core. Either way, it should be comparable, it's newer tech and it has a HD4000 as opposed to the HD2000 in the desktop.

That's true. If you want to do any light gaming, the HD 4000 iGPU (or AMD A10) is the way to go for cheap.
