which system delivers best perform or bang for the buck duel cpu vp6 or 1 cpu kt7a raid??

which makes the most sense (gives you the most bang for the buck) etc.:

1 buying an abit vp6 (a dual processor mobo) with 2 pent 733 cpu and overclocking them,
while running win2000

OR

2 buying an abit kt7a raid spending the same amt for one cpu (instead of 2) to get a AMD THUNDERBIRD ATHLON 1200 MHZ and overclocking it while running win2k?


would either my operating system (win 2k) or my applications run faster on the vp6 or the kt7a raid given all else is equal?


side questions: does the fact that the p3 733 runs at 133mgh make it faster then a p3 750 running at 100?

Well, yes running 733@133 is faster than 700@100, because the CPU communicates with the world 25% faster.

If you are going to overclock, better start with a 700. 733 is really an Intel-approved overclock of a 550. The 700 may take you all the way to 1GHz if you are lucky, and can provide adequate cooling. My 700 (cB0, and cC0 is supposed to be better at overclocking) is fine at 933@133 with slightly better then stock HSF.

If you are still looking for processors, look in the for sale/trade section. Like JesseKnows said, the cc0 P3 700 are known for doing the GHz dance. I just picked up two processors and two Alpha Pal6035 hs/f from Bonkers325 for abut $400 shipped and he tested both processors to run at 1017 each. I know it is harder to run oc'ed processors together, so I am hoping I can achieve the dual GHz mark with them. If not, I will be close.

Depending on what you are doing with the system, you will probably be just as happy with the 1.2 GHz Athlon as you would be with the dually rig. Most games don't take advantage of SMP yet, so the raw power would be going to waste. I, on the otherhand, am running a web server off the setup along with a Q3, UT, and Counterstrike servers all at once. When oc'ing the P3, make sure your ram can handle it. That is usually the first thing to fail, next is the agp and pci cards. The processor, in my experience, has the most headroom at times. A good mobo with proper dividers will not give you the problems at high fsb ratings.
