I'm taking a phhysical swim test for scuba certification, I need to swim 200 yards. Which swim stroke takes the least amount of effort?

are you serious?
Maybe you shouldn't be scuba certified if you're asking such questions

it feels better to stroke down... but I tend to exert myself less on the upstroke :D

side stroke is really easy. plus, you don't have to keep submerging your head like the breast stroke.

probably breast stroke.

you'll also need to swim 75 yards underwater to pass openwater (or something like that)

If you have trouble swimming that's gonna be difficult for ya.

I would go freestyle, but that's just me.

I don't know where you are getting certified, but they never made me pass any sort of prerequisite type of test. You never use everyday swimming skills in scuba anyways. I guess they are just trying to weed out the weaklings.

Is this a pool program, or open water?

I did not have to do this for my open water.

I'd go side stroke. Of course, if you really wanted to impress, you'd doggy paddle the whole thing as fast as you can.

yeah

its the easiest to do, all the grannies in our local pool do the "head up" breast stroke. you dont really have to have the arms and legs technique pinned to make it work either

but Freestyle is the more efficient id say, its the fastest and its easier to go further.

breast stroke.. but front crawl will get you there faster. you should rotate between resting strokes like breast stroke and power strokes like front crawl.

I guess I just got lucky and they assumed that I was a strong enough swimmer:

Padi FAQ

Do I have to be a great swimmer to be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver?

No. You need to be a reasonably proficient swimmer and comfortable in the water. You must swim 200 metres/200 yards nonstop, without a time or specific stroke requirement or a 300 metre/yard swim with mask, fins and snorkel. You'll also perform a 10 minute tread/float

If I'm swimming and I need to take a little rest, I use the SIDE STROKE. It doesn't seem to take very much energy, at least for me.

I found it was less exhausting with the breast stroke, however, I use my legs more then my arms. My legs are stronger so don't quite require as much energy. Doesn't go as fast but i can last over 1 hour easily.

I think the penalty stroke is the easiest. You can write it down without even swinging a club.

DUDE! You're OB off the TEE. You can't drop by the marker and say your hitting three.

You're hitting three from the TEE!!!

crawl, but only if you have the technique. Otherwise I would go for back, or breast.
