i have to pick hard drive sub-system for my new main gamer rig

and i can't make up my mind, you dudes pick it for me

i don't download millions of mp3 or pr0n, so the total space isn't really the issue

thanks anandtech dudes, i went with the 100GB ATA drive, i'll put the scsi lovin into another box for a server (and probably sell it since i don't really need a server

go with the SCSI one. They are faster. I'd buy one myself if I could afford one:(

Just get a cheap HD for mass storage.

You should know the ATA100 can't sustain 100mb and the SCSI one will be much more capable of sustaining it. Not sure if the speed difference in gaming will be a factor though.

Neither ATA or a single SCSI drive will sustain anywhere near a 100mb/s most I ever heard was 60g/second on a 15,000RPM fujitsu. Anyhoo there was a study I read on slashdot that basically said SCSI makes no sense unless you have a server with many users reading/writing at once. AKA for home machines SCSI makes no sense(look for the study on slashdot). So go for it 100gb is good future insurance.(Oh and the whole CPU thing is a myth, ATA takes up less then .1% of a modern CPU, and they almost every controller has bus mastering built in.)

You won't notice much difference with the SCSI drive, SCSI is most useful when dealing with large numbers of I/O requests from different apps, such as in a server... the price you pay for the reduced storage for a home PC is just not worth it.
