In Accadia Natl Park (Maine) it was (in July 2006) 4.99/lb for softshell lobster right out of the ocean.

I think you can buy it cheap in Maine as long as you buy in bulk, 10 lbs. or more.

No, but they are shipped inside an air conditioner which insures they arive cold and fresh. Once they're delivered to your house they pop out on their own. It's a good deal all the way around.
