which state does the simpsons live in??

canada!

(no, i swear... they had an interview with matt groening sometime ago, where he said something to the effect of springfield is based off a canadian city or something...)

isn't springfield the city that every state has one of?

I think it's springfield (unless that's an urban legend too..). that's probably why he picked that.

it is well known that the Springfield that the Simpsons live in is just made up by the writers. There was one episode where they showed a whole bunch of landmarks just to parody the mystery. So basically, its a cartoon that isnt real.

Well, they live next to shelbyville, the town where people marry their cousins so that narrows it down a bit.

springfield is the most numerous name of a city in america. shelbyville is second. they are just screwing with you. notice in some episodes it snows, while others there is a dessert. and in one episode there is a giant mountain and in the next a huge canyon. some episodes there is an ocean. face it, no state has that climate.

Oregon has that climate 🙂
And there is a Springfield in Oregon (although it doesn't have a nuclear plant) with a rival town (called Eugene).
Simpsons creator, Matt Groening, lives in Portland.
Several Simpsons characters come from Portland streets and landmarks. For example, Ned Flanders is from NE Flanders St. There's also SW Terwilliger Blvd., SW Montgomery St., Burnside St., and more.

In the actual show, though, the Springfield could be anywhere. It's fiction.

You're not supposed to know what state it is. I remember that one episode where they had Marge calling in and giving her address to recieve something in the mail.

And she was like ".....Springfield, OHiya Maude" (As soon as Maude Flanders walks in.)
