Logitech Z-2200
or
Klipsh GMX ProMedia 2.1

I'm looking at getting new speakes and it's come down to one of these to.
I have purchased a pair of ProMedia's for a customer and they are totally awesome.
But MaximumPC says that the Logitech 2200's are the better choice.

Anyone one want to add some imput?

virtualgamers0, why the Altec? Even some of the reviews on the link you posted said the Altec's are better than any speakers not named Klipsh.
"They blow just about anything out of the water that isn't named Klipsch..."

I know looks aren't everthing, but the sub on the Altec looks a little lacking.
But I do appreciate the suggestion. Thank you.

gmx series - is the worst series ever made by klipsch - not really a good comparison - i love klipsch but between those - the 2200's are the way - i own a pair of 4.1s - if i had to i would pick a 2.1s non gmx if i had to go with a good set of 2's

Ok I can agree with that. I have a set of Original Klipsch 4.1s and love them, even compared to my friends new Logitech 4.1s.

Don't get GMX, get the regular ones, they're much much better. GMX is known as crap.

altec lansing is more about the design and sound quality instead of specs/power rating/looks..

Some people here are saying that GMX is crap. Please tell me why you believe this.

The pair that I have heard sound much better than I had expected.

Based on my personal experience I would recommend them to anyone.
But if there is something wrong please tell me what it is.

the gmx series is only good for consoles pretty much - the regular line non-gmxs sound so much better - as i stand if the comparison between the 2200s and gmxs its all abou the logitechs -

pending on who you ask - people will either pick the 2200s or the promedia 2.1s as the best 2.1s you can get for your pc

Better than the Logitechs, more musical than the Klipsch. About as good as the Klipsch

Very nice, very musical.

Better than all the others listed here

So those are hardly "the best 2.1s you can get for your pc."

If it's better than the klipsch 2.1 is debatable.. but it certainly is better than the GMX series.

And I have heard the sub, it is incredible. The sub goes extremely deep without losing volume, and doesn't cut into the midrange unlike most multimedia subs. Plus they are overly boomy, unlike logitech subs, which are very annoying for music listening.

Altec Lansing makes the best 2.1 music listening speakers hands down. They have always focused on music, very dynamic range, good highs, and tight bass.

If you have the money, always Klipsch (excluding their horrible mistake called GMX).

If on a budget, you can grab the logitech z-680's for $230 these days.

Never buy altec lansing.

Altecs are definitely better than Logitech's. At least Altec is a name in sound, not a keyboard maker.

LOL nice one. I have an Altec Lansing 621 and I think its great. Logitech has stronger bass, but music sounds better on the 621s. From what I've read logitech is better at gaming and altec lansing is better for music.

For choosing between the 2 speakers I would choose the logitechs cause they have more power than the GMX.

Hmmm, maybe you should read some reviews...or better yet, actually go to the store and listen for yourself how tinny and distorted altecs can be. Sorry if my experience with your true "name in sound" is not so optimistic.

Check just about anywhere and you will find the most recommended speakers are klipsch, logitech, and occasionally the creatives.

And if you know anything about speakers you will know that power alone means nothing. Check the max acoustic output and frequency ranges for better performance specs.

Of course, all speaker recommendations are completely subjective and dependent on the listener, so forget listening to us and go find one you like.

Why don't you check the speakers I posted above. Those are actually nice MM speakers. They'll put anything else to shame. No one recommends Logitechs for people who care about sound quality, they're boomy, hissy and just cheap. They may do ok for movies or games, but for CDs and DVD-A, you'll need something better to even be able to discern a difference.

Who said anything about power?

The Altec ATP3s and 651s are some of the most renoun budget speakers ever made. The speaker gurus over at 3dss recommend them for people on low (<$100) budgets.

The guy who posted last on the first page was talking about power.

I never said that I agreed with logitech's being great speakers, but they sound pretty good for the price.

As far as sub $100 speakers, I really couldn't tell you. I find that spending that much money to get the crap you buy just isn't worth it. Make the investment and get some quality (Klipsch, for instance, has been making some of the best sound equipment for decades).

I'm not trying to rip on your altecs, but most of those smaller mm speakers sound like pure ass at higher volumes and couldn't handle bass right if you jammed it up their rear.

I agree on not buying crap. I'm looking to move up from my gigaworks to something in the $800-$1000 range.
