Ok, ive decided to dunk another $100 into the pool for speakers and i've "upgraded" my choices....

The two i'm down to are;

1) Harman Kardon HKTS 14 - 5.1 Home Cinema Speaker System - Link
Retail Price: $649

The HKTS 14 home cinema system combines a 12-inch, 200-watt subwoofer with magnetically shielded, two-way center channel and satellite speakers. Advanced features include line-level Sub/LFE input, music-sensing on/off and multicolor LED power indicator. Wall-mount brackets for the satellite speakers are included.

2) Infinity TSS-750 - Link
Retail Price: $699

Complete Multichannel Music and Home Theater Loudspeaker System with MMD? drivers

The Infinity Total Solutions?
TSS-750 is a complete multichannel music and home theater loudspeaker system featuring proprietary MMD? drivers. With their compact and versatile design, the satellite speakers can be placed virtually anywhere ? on shelves, or mounted on a wall using the included braket. The center channel can easily be placed on top of, or on a shelf below, the television. The powered subwoofer delivers the bass impact and excitement for your favorite music and movie soundtracks. The satellites and center channel feature extruded and brushed aluminum enclosures. Available in platinum and charcoal finishes.

Through the retail accomodations the prices are almost the same, $303 for the Infinity TSS-750 and $313 for the HTKS-14. Obviously the HTKS has a better sub (12" 200watt opposed to the 10" 150watt), but i wanted to see what ya'll thought of these.

I don't want to spend more than $300ish for the speakers, I like them to be fairly small (no big boys), with the best quality sound for the money.

What do you reccomend?

bigger isnt always better. i would go with the infinity. infinity specializes in speakers whereas HK is more of a electronics company. all of my experience with infinity speakers has been pretty good as well.

I think one of my HT magazines did a review on the infinity setup. I know it was a review of one of their smaller systems.

Small and great quality don't usually go together. I spent $499 on my first speaker system (Boston Acoustics) and returned them the next day. My next step was $799. Not good either. Then I went up to $999 (oh the horror). Still not very good. Best smallish system I tried out was from definitive technology. They make some really nice speakers. I think the setup was around $1299. It wasn't bad but not great. I finally settled on JBL Studio Series all around and for the money (~$1,500) it's a nice system.

I can't stress enough how important it is to try them in your room with your equipment.

Well I don't have equipment yet, speakers first.... then the reciever a few months later...

I won't be able to afford a $1000+ system for quite a few years.... Im in law school right now and facing 100k in loans...

For the time being, nothing.

I'll hopefully pick up a reciever in the next few months.... I don't know how much longer i'll be working at CC for, and want to pick up the speakers while i can still get the 50% discount.

I can get some decent HK Recievers for 50% off too, but i dunno if i wanna go HK on the reciever.

Ahh.. now I understand. H&K receivers are pretty good. I had a 225 (I think) for a while and I like it. Tried a Yamaha around the same time, that was pretty good too. Finally decided to just keep my Denon.
If you can get a great discount, I would def. go that route.

Yah. thats what im thinking.

I mean they are both roughly $700 speakers, and the recievers go for around $500 or so....

I could pick up both for around $500-600

You do realize last I checked Harmon Kardon and Infinity were both HK International owned.

I don't work for CC if you get what I mean;)

I wouldn't touch Bose with a 10 ft pole. Course, I'm a bit of a hipocrite as I have a pair of Bose bookshelfs in front of me. I bought those before I knew any better.

Speaking of speakers, if anyone interested in a pair of brand new in box Energy Veritas V2.4I, pm me. Local pick up only if you're in SoCal. I'll give you an offer you can't refuse.

Both brands are from the same company. So the performance are the same. Just choose the style you like.

The Infinity will suck less, but neither will be good. The drivers are too small to even handle the lower end of the human vocal range (3.5")
