Given a choice, all other things equal, would you rather have the pissed off growl from a 60 degree V12 in an Aston Martin, or the banshee wail of a 4.3 liter V8 from a Ferrari F430 (or 430 Scuderia)

I am NOT trying to argue the merits of either car, just the beautiful soundtrack their engines produce.

I've driven a F360 which is pretty badass. I can't imagine an Aston being more exhilarating that than, so I'll take a F430. :)

My classmate revved his mom's new Aston Martin V8 Vantage (not V12, but still) and it was definitely the loudest and nicest sound I've heard a car make. I've never heard a Ferrari rev in IRL, though.

F360? You mean a 360 Modena?

Same thing. F355, F360, F430, etc.

It'd be the flat cam profile V8 for me. Raises the hair on back of my neck. I really loved the V12 sound in the Vanquish though.

every wannabe high roller in houston has a ferrari rented to park outside the club. that will forever tarnish the car.

besides, ferrari was all about the V12.

I've tracked an F355, Porsch RS, ZR-1 Vette (just missed a chance to drive a Pro Toyota Atlantic!). But I'd have to say the sound of straight line cars thrills my heart. ...small block chevy with a big can/solid lifters/dual quads is where the sounds at.
...da, da, da WHHUUUMMMPPP! ..and the rice rockets don't even try.
Then there Top Fuel...3.4 on the Richter Scale!

That high-strung sound of a Ferrari gets me going... Closest thing to F1 sound on the street.

I can't justify it, but honestly neither the Ferrari nor the Aston really do it for me. There are only 4 common road-going engines that I really, truly love the sound of:

1) Air-cooled flat 6.
2) Large cross-plane V8 (Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler are the usual players in this arena), especially with a wild cam.
3) Flat 4, air-cooled especially, but liquid-cooled is OK too. What can I say, I like old VWs.
4) Harley V-Twin (both pistons share the same crank throw).

Both. I love the sound of engines. Period.

That said my current inline 6 has a fantastic rasp and my previous flat four was very bassy and 'strong sounding'.

I've heard a few different Ferraris, and can't say that I liked the sound of any of them. I guess they sound better when being wound out. But they just seemed flat.

...and as far as Top Fuel goes, you don't hear their exhaust note, you feel it.

but..unless youre racing... the smooth creamy v12 is more pleasant day to day than a raspy screaming v8

Don't like the sound of Ferrari at all. Just not a fan of the high pitch F1-like whine. So the Aston it is. I much prefer the low down rumble. For my money a car can't sound any better than this:

Eleanor

And I can't stand Ford, but respect where it is due.

if i voted for the ferrari, i might as well just go for a motorcycle instead -- too high a rev, IMO, and you sound like a bike more or less.

that said, i  sportbike sounds, large american V8's, the Lambo LP640 Superleggra (that thing is straight up MEAN), and anything audi (see sig :p)

I vote ferrari but I'd have to say my personal favorite is the Carrera GT.
