I have a choice between a Sound Blaster Ensoniq AudioPCI and the current on-board sound ECS K7S5A with an AC97 Audio Codec built in the SIS 735 Chipset, which would be better?

Each person percieves what is "better" differently to the next, so my suggestion is to try both, and see which one you think sounds better, to you :)

I'm not sure what AC97 codec the ECS K7S5A uses(C-Media or Realtek) even though I own one, but the AudioPCI is a great lil card that arguably has better sound quality than an SB Live! Feature support is lacking though.

I used to have this exact combo. The audiopci sound is much better than the K7s5a.

Great for an onboard solution and low cost audio card, but doesn't compare to dedicated sound cards.
