I currently have a SB Live in my system and I recently got the Logitech z680's. I was thinking about getting a new sound card. Should I get an audigy 2 or is there something out there better? And as far as what I listen to, I constantly play music and I play alot of sound intensive games. Thanks for any feedback anyone has.

Audigy 2 is worth the money and I hear the Audigy is pretty good as well. I'd say either one of them depending on your price range.

And welcome to the Forums 🙂

A really good one. One that's really good and sounds good...and stuff. 😕

Hehe...I recommend the TB Santa Cruz, or a Philips card, or that new one Audio revolution or something like that with 6.1 channels (I hear it's best for music but not gaming??)

I have the Audigy 1, there are no problems during games. During mp3s and some multitasking there is some stuttering in the sound. Example, if somebody messages me on Yahoo or AIM, the mp3 will skip and sound really scratchy. I've heard mostly positive reviews on the Audigy 2 card. That is your best bet.

mwave.com has good price on the OEM verison.

I recommend the SB Audigy 2 for $225 over at newegg.com. It's very expensive, so it MUST be good right? 😕

Audigy 2 OEM is your best bet, excellent sound card for gaming and general use plus OEM version will be kind to your pocket 😉.

Well, do you REALLY need the Platinum version? The card alone is only $78.

I found the card I want here, and it's not the Audigy2. I guess my experience with the SBLive convinced me they are geared towards a lower level sound system than I have. That may just be my perception, but I've been toslinking it to my receiver for a while and I think that everytime I run it. Problem is, I don't want a whole bunch of midi inputs, I just want a nice digital signal. The card I want is the Terratec DMX 6fire 24/96 LT, but that's just the way I use/plan to use my computer. It seems you really don't have any good all around sound cards for the PC, same as computer speakers. The HTPC craze seems to be nudging things more in the audiophile direction. I'd easily pay $400 for a good sound card, that's me. For the record, I still have a PIII which shows how much premium I put on sound quality. More than I'd pay for a video card.

I know he was joking, but that's the Platinum Ex version which actually is better than the other versions.

either the audigy 2, turtle beach santa cruz, hercules digifire, game theater xp or m-audio revolution.
they are all good cards from what i hear.

the revolution is the best for music.
the santa cruz is the best for driver support and overall compatibility without problems.
the audigy2 if you want creative.
the game theater xp for the expansion box and it's the same card as the santa cruz w/ an expansion box.
the digifire if you need more firewire ports than the audigy 2 provides.

happy w/ the M-Audio Revolution (7.1) here...that terratec card is supposed to be nice IIRC from the 3-way shootout between that, audigy2, and this card.
