I was looking at getting a new sound card. I had planned on getting the Aureal SQ2500 but I dont know if I want to get one from them because of there situation. So I guess I was thinking about a Live. I also saw the Live Player. Is it better then the regular Live? Also, to add, I need 4 speaker support/

Sb-Live X-Gamer... just cause you get 3 games.

The Sb-Live Value, MP3, X-Gamer and Platinum are all the same card with different software packages.

The Value (new version)... I dont know what it comes with. maybe just drivers
Mp3 comes with MP3 software
X-Gamer comes with games
Platinum comes with lots of software and the Live!Drive

SB live value!

I don't know, but it is just cheap and works fine...
Mine came without drivers, but I just got those off the net, so it wasn't any problem...

I got the digital connector with it, but no software, but... HEHE

Any SB Live!
I had an MX 300 and the card was OK, but Diamond's driver support sucks.

...another vote for the X-Gamer....I use a set of Cambridge Soundworks DTT2500 digital 5.1 speakers with the X-Gamer and couldn't ask for better quality.

Sound Blaster Live! Value. I recommend this one just because I hate software bundles. All they do is increase the cost of the product. But any of the SB Live! products would be great. :)

SB Live! is a good choice. Which one? Anyone of them.
Just ask yourself a few questions.

SB Live! Platinum
1. Can I afford a SB Live! Platinum?
Do I have a 5.25 bay open for the Live Drive?
Will I use the extra i/o's on the Live Drive?

SB Live! MP3
2. Am I a MP3 freak?
Would I rather use free MP3 software that I can download?

SB Live! X-gamer
3. Do I live to Game?
Do I have any of the 3 included games; would like to have an extra licence; or trade the gam?

SB Live! Value OEM
4. Am I looking for value in a soundcard for around $50?

All will give you that 4 point surround support, and that is a good thing!

Honestly, I can't tell all that much difference from one sound card to the next. I went from a cheapo SB compatible, to an SB AWE 64, now using a Diamond Monster Sound and couldn't really say I've noticed the sound change all that much. I've found the biggest factor to be the speakers. Unless you're using some pretty nice speakers on your comp it doesn't really matter what card you use.

My $0.02

In MP3's and such, I would say that my old SB-16 is exactly the same. The first time I tried a game that used EAX on my 4 point speakers I was amazed. It was awesome. Also MIDI sounds MUCH better and more realistic.

I also like the DSP effects (I think thats what they are called) you can use when you install the LiveWare drivers.

SB Live!.....don't go OEM, they don't have an SPDIF connector.....which greatly increases cd music quality, if you've got good speakers with digital in, that is

sblive! value. never had any compatibility problems as of yet. had an mx300 and it was an awesome card, but lack of driver support and smp problems (arg!!!) made me trade it for a sblive value to a friend. good deal.

Bottom line! Any live card should make you very happy. If you can get the Live! Player, get it. Support is important and Vortex is questionable as to the future support they may give on there good products.

Your half right Stefen on the Live Player. It is a European and Asian distribution of the Live product.

This is a comparison of bundles sold with North American Live cards and the European/Asian cards with duplicate software removed form the list. For full bundle go to:

I noted that Thief : The Dark Project - Eidos Interactive (Full Version) is sold with Live player and x-gamer, but the Live player bundle page said sold in Europe only. Most like a version with support for more languages or just a web page mistake, but I would not loose sleep over it.

Bottom line! Any live card should make you very happy. If you can get the Live! Player, get it. Support is important and Vortex is questionable as to the future support they may give on there good products
