Which SOHO router for this purpose?

I've currently got a Linksys BEFSR41 for my own personal use. I now need to research products like it for a friend of mine. His will be used in a network of 3-4 computers, one of which will be a web server. I personally don't think that the BEFSR41 would be reliable enough for a web server, and want to know what else is out there.

Thanks for any links and info you're able to provide,
Adrian.

I run a server on a Linksys router and it's been flawless. Of all my problems with my server, none so far have been related to the router. It's always been power outages, domain names, and more recently, DNS issues. I've had the Linksys for about a year now an I've never had to reboot it unless I screwed something up in the configuration pages.

Then again, I'm using firmware 1.2x not the latest 1.3x firmware. I'm afraid if I flash to the newer firmare, I'll "destablize" my Linky. If it ain't broke... don't screw with it.

I have the Linksys and the SMC Barricade. I like the Linksys much more (speed).

Although I haven't heard anything bad about the Netgear so I'd encourage getting the netgear.

Why would the SMC be "slower'? i was about to look into it as it has Print Server as well!

I dunno both routers are connected to the same internet connection (apartment T1) yet the SMC responds slower, i ping people on the network 10-25 ms slower on the SMC versus the Linksys. It is known however the the SMC has higher data thoroughput (<-- spelling?). I think the Linksys faster processor + bigger cache attributes for it being faster.

SMC higher thruput but slower? I do not understand.
IF you just use ping time you can fall into the @HOME trap. When you say to them e-mail is VERY slow or times out, they PING it and say it looks OK here! Pinging it to see if you can connect does not show what happens once you do connect and try to use it.

Just a question...but IF all of the deals have gone away on the SMC I think I will just wait...I Heard that...No my wife did not say $149 no way! :D
