Which software media player support PGS/SUP subtitles?

I just realized that my favourite media player, VLC, doesn't support PGS/SUP subtitles in my movies. What are some players that do support the format?

No software does it right now. I think some alpha builds of VLC have support, but it's sketchy. And work is happening on MPC home cinema as well.

I tried it on MPC Home Cinema, but it doesn't work despite what people on the internet says. The subtitles are enabled, but nothing shows up.

Are you sure no software player will support it? Not even PowerDVD/WinDVD?

Are you talking about actual discs or subtitles in MKV files?

PowerDVD/WinDVD will of course support subs from actual discs because they are official blu ray players and have to support it.

MPC-HC does indeed display PGS utilizing its own splitter and appropriate renderer.

The M2TS need not be original for MPC-HC nor PDVD. That is, PGS can be embedded from SUP or even generated from SRT with the likes of tsMuxeR.

It doesn't work for me.

How is it configured? Is the renderer EVR Custom Pres or VMR-9 Renderless (or other noted necessary for subs)? Has the PGS been selected during playback from the menu Play - Filters (under the M2TS file listing) or alternately proceeded to the first one with the "S" key? You may also try Reload from the menu Play - Subtitles (can also confirm Enabled there).

Auric,

You're a genius! It worked! However, I still want to use VLC with it since it has a cool remote application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. I guess I don't have a choice since it doesn't support PGS at the moment.

There is one issue with MPC-HT and that is how come it doesn't detect the subtitles in other languages? When I ripped my Blu-Rays, I also rip out the the subtitles in other languages as well. MPC-HT only sees the English subtitles, but not French, Spanish, and Chinese.

Well, I've been using MPC for many years and PGS since introduced. I do include all languages too but only view Engrish so am not sure why there would be a problem displaying others. These days, I actually use XBMC (DSPlayer) on the telly more and MPC-HC on the monitor. Both are controlled with standard Media Center remote codes.

You got any suggestions on what else I can do?

Do you mean MPC-HC does not list other language PGS available that other proggies such as MediaInfo do or that they are listed but not displayed if selected?

I just tested a Spanish PGS that was the second subtitle and it works. Try it with an unaltered M2TS and if it works then maybe in other cases the fault is in the method of remuxing?

Another possibility is that there is a problem with that specific version of MPC-HC. Try the current official release and/or a test version. I'm using 1.3.1824.0 at the mo'.
