I'm bout to get my DVD-ROM in a couple days, but am torn as to which software decoder is best for me. Popular chocies seem to be WinDVD and PowerDVD.

Can I get some feedback on them? Pro's, con's?

system:
700mhz duron
256mb pc 133 ram
v7100 asus gf2mx
toshiba 16x40x dvd

Thanks.

I've used both, and like PowerDVD better. I like the user interface more than windvd's. Both are very similar, but have their differences. I'm not very aware of them though. Sorry 🙁

I personally like WinDVD more...the video is sharper and clearer..and you can actually hear bass ...😉 The interface is good...(not as good as PowerDVD's), but I guess it depends on what is most important to you....

PowerDVD is great for the video part of it. I can't speak for the audio because it is passed digitally from the DVD to my AC3 receiver without being touched by the software or a decoder on the sound card.

Best thing is to try out both of them (they have trial version) and give them a whirl. You can have both installed at the same time, it doesn't matter.
