Ok, I was planning on getting the MSI K7T Turbo for my Duron 800 because it is cheaper than the others. But after hearing about the multiplier problems I'm not too sure anymore. Has anyone had any experience with the Abit KT7E? Money is an object here since I will only have like $100 to spend on a board. Help me out here guys, this is my first foray into AMD land... Thanks

I have had two systems up on the MSI board and both were rock solid and I was happy with them. I don't play around too much with OC'ing so that didn't make much of a difference. I bought an Abit board for my boss, I am unsure why he went that way, and his is fine also although it seemed very sensitive to his power supply. He said he had to unplug and replug the power cord or something like that whenever he shut down and tried to restart shortly after. He ended up putting in a new power supply. Either board would probably be good.

I thought the KT7E was a version of the old 100mHz board. If you can spend a little extra then I would really recommend getting hold of the KT7A board.

Getting hold of a 600-800 mHz duron and running it at 800 (133fsb * 6) via judicious use of a pencil is just soo easy and satisfying...

Plus you'll have a longer upgrade path in terms of 'official' 266mHz (133) chips...

I've built 4 of these now and all boards were fine, however, the amount of BIOS options is daunting (unless you ignore them all!) so a page like the following can help:

Well, from what I understand the KT7E doesnt have the "official" 133fsb support but does go up that high. I am just limited on budget here with my wife breathing down my neck and all.

Sure, know what you mean,

I take the smae approach as can be seen from my rig. Best bang for buck and all that...

I've used MSI all the time in the past for their stability and cost effectiveness. If the KT7E clocks at 133 then that is good.

Just reading a review here: http://www.viahardware.com/abitkt7e.shtm

be back in a bit

Agreed,

KT7E is a smart choice perhaps better than my own KT7A in bang per buck...

...or so it would seem from above review.

Looks like you'll may have to bite the bullet and buy.

"You pays yer money and yer takes yer choice..."

V. interested to hear about your experience with it...

Go to AMDZone.com and check out what the OCer's are saying about the Epox 8K7A on their forums. It sounds like it is the new OCer's MB of choice.

Defniitely EPOX! I was going to buy the KT133A 8KTA3 for $94, but now I bought 8K7A for $129. I figured why I would want to buy something obsolete as PC133, might as well go all out and be happy. :)
