Ok, I am a cingular customer and will be staying a cingular customer.

Is the 8525 the best smartphone for my needs?

Needs:
- replace mp3 player (I don't carry 40 days of songs at a time)
- watch video that is as good quality as the zen ( I will be getting a couple 4 gb sd cards)
- dongle as a high speed modem for my laptop.
- biggest keyboard available (big hands)
- ftp into home server to pull files
- watch porn on bus

And what are your phones and the cool things you can do.

Yes, I am in a 3g area for cingular.

I guess I should have also mentioned that touch screen is important to me. Does the new Q have a touchscreen?

nope. the battery life has improved DRASTICALLY via a new firmware update btw, but I would look at a Motorola Symbian-based device from cingular since you want a touchscreen:)

8525 is awesome. Personally, I like the Blackjack better, but if you have big hands, it's definitely out of the running. Best advice -- go to a Cingular store and play with them to see which ones you find easy to type on.

Oh yeah, I have a TMo MDA. I use if for email (push from exchange server), contacts, calendar, phone, web browsing, streaming TV/music/videos/photos off my MCE box via Orb, GPS (or Windows Live Search if I don't feel like busting out the BT GPS), ebooks from the NYPL, weather updates, games, RSS on the subway. I thought I'd use it for connecting to servers too, but it's really too small of a screen to be worthwhile. If it had VGA, it might be more useful. Make sure whatever you get, you upgrade it to WM6 (if it's a WinMo device, of course ;)). WM6 is fantastic and just so much ridiculously faster and more stable than WM5 on my MDA. Oh and it makes using your phone as a modem sooo much easier. It was retardedly difficult with WM5 for some reason.

Awesome, thanks for all the details. I totally forgot about orb!
