Need to know carrier at minimum.

On AT&T, the Skyrocket is the SGS2 with LTE and it uses the Snapdragon S3 instead of the Exynos on other SGS2 models. Their regular SGS2 doesn't spor the LTE radio. Verizon has no SGS2 model at all, and instead has the Galaxy Nexus, a solid phone in its own right. There's also the Skyrocket HD that went through the FCC not too long ago, on AT&T, but I'm not fully versed on that one . . . Skyrocket with a 720p screen?

Hold on for another month if you can at all. Then you can either get next gen performance or reap savings on phones like gnex and sgs2 when their prices drop. The old comeback 'if I always wait for the next best thing I'll never get anything' doesn't apply here. Now is the perfect time to wait just a month.
Good luck!

Anyone buying an LTE smartphone that doesn't have a 28nm baseband from Qualcomm (either Snapdragon S4 or MDM9615 chip) shouldn't expect to get similar battery life compared to current 3G phones sold today.

Agree with this with the exception of the Razr Maxx and Galaxy Note.

What phone to die for is going to be released next month?

Wait for the Droid Fighter. I'm sure it's the next best thing that will get picked apart in no time. But I'm holding out for it.
