I will be getting a LCD TV for my bedroom. I set 7.6 feet away from there the tv will be. Should I get a 37" or a 42"? Also would 720P be too low for a 42" tv?

42" is fine for that distance if you're watching HD or DVD's. SD signals might be a little rough.

From the Costco Member "Fill Your Wallet with Savings From Costco" Winter/Spring 2008 coupon book.

Figured I post this since I didn't see it here yet. Coupon books are suppose to be delivered between Dec. 26~31. There is also another coupon book for Jan.7~27,2008 which is pretty much the same as the one that has been sent out every few month but I didn't feel like listing that one out at the moment.

The answer depends on your budget more then anything else ... first of all despite what you may hear from some folks, I'm going to strongly suggest first that you go with a tier-1 company like Sharp, Toshiba, Samsung etc & second based on my extensive shopping around I think you should put the greatest emphasis on color accuracy over size & resolution.

This isn't to say that the higher 1080p resolution won't provide a bit sharper picture all else being equal, but if it comes down to a 1080p 42 inch Vizio or a 42 inch 720p Toshiba for example (I just finished making this exact comparision) you'll most likely be happier in the long run with the deeper blacks & more realistic color provided by the Toshiba or other tier-1 Japanese brand. The one exception to this would be if you plan on using the TV as a PC moniter because text will be a lot sharper at 1080p.

42" without a doubt. 37" will have you wishing you went bigger a few days after the purchase.

As for the 720p question. I doubt you will notice a difference between 720p and 1080p at that screen size. However, if you can afford it go for it. I would recommend that you go to a store that has a 720p model and 1080p model side by side and hopefully receiving 1080p content. See if you notice any difference that warrants the cost.

More importantly, look at the black level. LCDs vary greatly in their ability to produce a deep black. This will be much more important to worry about than whether or not to get 1080p.

Yes I agree. I myself have a 50" TV and I sit less than 7 feet away, but I think I'm sort of on the extreme end of things. TV's seem smaller once you put them in your living room (or whichever room).

The old adage goes, "Look at TV's until you find one that you think is way too big. Then buy one size bigger."

And 1080p isn't really a huge deal unless you plan on using your TV with a computer. I doubt you'd really notice.

I'd say go with a good 42" set from a quality manuf. I personally have a seating distance of about 7' from my 40" TV and it's fine for watching movies (though I wish I would have had the extra cash to go for the 46"). For gaming, I generally sit about 4-5 feet away (in my comfy desk chair). 7' seems a bit too far for me to game effectively on a 40" screen... though I can still enjoy a movie or TV show from that distance. If you have the cash, error on the "too big" side.

Hopefully I'll have a projector setup in another year or two and then size wont be a problem. I'll be able to sit 8-10' from a nice big 100"+ screen and all will be right with the world.

Oh man that's the honest truth. Before my current 42", I've never had a TV larger than 32 inches (and that was a CRT at that). Now that I have my 42" set, I'm craving something bigger.

I'm sitting 6' away from a 37" 1080P TV and it is good. 8' -- I start to not be able to discern individual pixels (this distance is where I stop seeing the one unlit subpixel).
