I have a fair amount of money to spend. Im contemplating building a Shuttle, kinda as a HTPC, but also just to use. Anyway, what is the best one to go for, and intel or amd, and what parts inside would be optimum.

I would like any ideas or anyone who has built one. just throw out some good ideas for me.

Thanks

I'm new to these forums but a big Shuttle fan and currently use the SN41G2v2 as my main box now. I currently run a AMD 2400+ mobile chip at 11x200 running PC3200 ram. My idle temps are around 39 degrees and load at 44 degrees.

If you are only looking for a cheap HTPC, take a look at the SN41G2v2 b/c it has integrated video plus a AGP slot for future upgrades. The stock fan on the Shuttle is loud for some but can easily be replaced with something quieter. If you want more help or opinions, check out forums.sudhian.com. The Shuttle forum there is the largest online and the people are more than willing to give you help on a good choice.

Good Luck!

I'm currently running an SB61G2 with a 2.8GHz P4. I built an SK41G with an XP, I think it was a 2400+. Both machines have been trouble free. People complain about the Shuttle's being noisy, but I disagree. The SB61G2 is about 1 foot from my head and is fine by my standards.

If you're relatively new to building (like me), you'll have ample opportunity to learn from your mistakes. When I built the SK41G, the CPU speed was low at boot up, something like 1800. I hadn't changed the jumper on the motherboard to set the FSB at 200. Now I know...

I used a SATA drive in the SB61G2 and, not unique to the Shuttles, learned the hard way that setting up a SATA is different than an IDE drive.

The words, "All learning is accompanied by pain", have been attributed to Plato. One smart dude, that Plato guy...

Enjoy the build...
