Which should I get? X800 or vanilla 6800?

Yeah, i wanted to ask the same thing.

Would a vanilla Geforce 6800 be better or Radeon x800? I'm talking about PCIe for both cards.

Geforce 6800: MSI NX6800-TD128E Geforce 6800 128MB 256-bit DDR PCI Express x16 Video Card $209

Radeon x800: SAPPHIRE 100107L-BL Radeon X800 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card $169

$40 difference...

Both are around the same price range. How is the OC and/or unlocking pipeline for both cards? From what I read, you can't unlock pipe for x800 but what about changing voltage and such with ATI Tool.

Or another words..
1)Which card is better BEFORE oc/unlocking?
2)Which card is better AFTER oc/unlocking?
3)IF the 6800 is better, is it worth spending extra $40 over the Radeon x800 for the difference in performance?

What res do you play at, if its 1600x or above, that 256mb may come in handy.

There is a 256mb version of the NU.

Niether cards can be unlocked.

Your thinking of the AGP 6800NU, with that, you have a 50/50 chance of unlocking.

X800 = 9800XT in pipes, memory, technology.

Similar core speed, and memory speeds
So basically, an X800 is a native PCI-e version of a 9800XT.

This means the 6800nu, even with 128 MB of memory should frag it. Unless somebody has some benches to discredit my advice.

what are you talking about the x800 is not the same thing
the x800 is an upgrade but it also has 12pixal pipelines
and ddr 3
so if you overclock it as high as the radion xl then it would be worth it
the 6800nu would be the better pick just becouse of the core speed
but if you can find a x800pro x800xt or a x800xl for just a little bit more then it would be worth it to get ati

I'm pretty sure you're correct.

What are you guys talking about.

The 9800XT has 8 pipe lines and GDDR2 or GDDR1.

The x800 has 12 pipelines and GDDR3.

The NU has DDR1 with 12 pipes and the one he linked only has 128mb of ram.

All these carbs use 256 bit memory.

keysplayr2003, your thinking of the x800SE which is pretty much a 9800XT, 8 pipelines and all.

The x800 is a better card, and for less money. It's basically a 12-pipe x800xl.

It has 12 pixel pipes like the 6800
6 vertex pipes (6800 had 5 i think...)
256mb memory on a 256 bit bus
DDR3 mem

Techreport has a review of it, it does pretty well against a 6800, and handily beats the 6600gt in almost everything.

I just bought the exact same card as the one linked above, and it comes with 2ns memory chips, same as the x800xl, so it could get up to 500mhz (1000 ddr). I havent tried it yet, still waiting for my dfi ultra-d to arrive.

Wups I guess that what I get for not checking the x800 link. 😱 I was thinking the x800 was similar to the SE just with higher clock speeds or something. In that case def got with the x800
